As a kid in the Northeast, I remember building snow forts, digging elaborate tunnels and constructing
The snowman we Maine kids built depended on the temperature, kind of snow and the size/ ambition of the work force of kids. What's that large shadow? It's from Olympia...a mountain of snow built by the Maine town of Bethel that already held the record for tallest snowman. Over 13 million pounds and over 122 feet tall!
snowman in the back yard with neighbor kids.
In winter, Maine kids don't hibernate inside camped out on the couch vegging on television and video games, or destroying whole pizzas or gallons of soda. They entertain themselves, get lungs full of fresh Maine air and rosy cheeks from fun and games outdoors.
Maine ski areas have plenty of snow for holiday school break winter recreation from downhill events, tubing, snowsledding, bon fires and family fun to celebrate the season. Maine..the way life should be. Come for a day, stay for a life time.

Practically a phantom of Sunday Rver, this bull moose has been sighted at
all the best locations! -The Jordan Grand Hotel, with cow and calf, the front nine
of the Sunday River Golf Course, and most recently at the exclusive
new subdivision, Merrill Hill Estates!

I was walking my two golden retrievers along Amethyst Way, when this beautiful
creature graced our presence!
Merrill Hill is so precious, the roads are named after gemstones!

Bethel, Maine is nestled among beautiful ponds and lakes, the Mahoosuc range, and of course Sunday River. Some say, the Bethel Village is the quintessential New England town. Main Street offers a variety of shopping experiences, ranging from artisan galleries to to fresh baked scones. The town common is a lovely peaceful place to watch the day go by! Visit the Bethel Historical Society opposite the Village green for a tour of Bethel's history.

These photos were taken late October at Sunday River. They show the amazing feat of building a chairlift/gondola, AKA the Chondola. The Chondola is scheduled tobe completed for this upcoming 2008/2009 ski season. The fall foliage was quite beautiful this year!

The gondolas are lined up at the entrance of the South Ridge Lodge, lookig like ambasadors, greeting guests!
