About Houlton's Houlton Airport

Houlton Maine International Airport ? Noooo...You Don't Fly In On Jumbo Jets.

Years ago before deregulation in the airline industry, planes from Northeast and other lines catered to and service little towns like Houlton Maine.

The government helped support the airline to these smaller off the beaten path areas but from a practical standpoint, you do not have 757 or L 1011's full of passengers coming into Houlton Maine eight times a day.  That is why it is a great place to live, not tons of people and the ones we have are friendly, caring and helpful! During World War Two the airport in Houlton Maine was very much a part of the war effort. (See earlier blog http://activerain.com/blogsview/67360/Houlton-Maine-farmer-helps about farmers hauling war planes with chains into New Brunswick Canada to help in the War II effort from Houlton International Airport)  Even if there are not hourly runs of planes in and out like some airport, you can bring you private plane in, you can charter Terry Larson the local Fix Based Operator to shuttle you, York Ford rents cars and we have local Houlton Taxi to pick you up to get you to a number of clean, neat hotels. So when someone asks me if you can fly into Houlton Maine, I don't automatically think no, and just the thought of large commerical jets.  I think sure..because lots of folks have planes and their own license, and with a little planning smaller private charters can work around the schedule. Details on the airport in Houlton Maine from the FAA below...known as KHUL.  If you were a pilot, you would want to know about radio homing frequencies, runway length, and many other houlton maine, border crossing, airport, mooers realtydetails before you hop into your Piper Cub and point it north. HIA is on the US / Canadian border.
