Yesterday I had to make a trip to Union City and then onto Coldwater, Michigan. Most of the travel time is through rural areas. I stopped at one point when I saw this field of sheep, and took a few photos. They looked a little bored, and somewhat ragged, but I thought they made for a good blog photo.
Driving through the rural areas of Southwest Michigan as a Realtor, I see a lot of farm life and other animals. Usually I see mostly cows and horses, and the occasional a pig. Sheep are a little less common. Being an active blogger, I have made more of an effort to take photos in recent years. Yesterday I had a little time between stops, and of course I had my camera on my front seat!

Bronson, Michigan is located in Western Branch County, about 35 miles south of Battle Creek. The community was named after Jabez Bronson, settler and tavern keeper. The small community of just over 2300 people surrounds their lives, as with many rural areas around the local high school.

However, in Bronson, Michigan the local school spirit goes a little farther than just the occasional flag or sign in the yard. In Bronson, Michigan the local municipality has changed their entire street signs sign to reflect not only the school colors, but also the mascot.
The high school website defines the student enrollment to be approximately 660 students, with an average class size of about 20. Despite the appearance of a small community, Bronson, Michigan's pride runs strong in the community.
In 2009-2010 their local varsity high school football team won the District Championship, and in the same year the Volleyball team won the State Championship. Not bad for a small community. In addition to the street signs as one drive through Bronson, Michigan one cannot help but notice the fire hydrants as well. Yes, of course, they too are painted with the same team colors!
In 2009 there were 65 homes sold in the Bronson School District, with a median home sales value of $49,900. The highest home sale of the year in 2009 was $200,000. Bronson, Michigan is mostly a farming community with agricultural fields, and large parcels of land outside of the downtown district.
Despite the rural location, Real Estate values, although declining
in recent years, appear to be leveling off in this community, perhaps largely due to the USDA Rural Development first time home buyer loan program.
The USDA Rural Development first time home buyer loan program allows for a buyer to purchase a home with 100% financing provided the location qualifies as a ‘rural property' according to the USDA official maps. Bronson Michigan and the entire County of Branch qualify for this program, which has perhaps helped real estate values in the community.

As a local Realtor who sells a lot of rural homes in communities similar to Bronson, I am familiar with the many requirements of these loan programs, and can assist you with buying a home with this program in Bronson, Michigan or in any other rural community you choose.
