Traverse City Voted #3 in USA for Best Place to Live & Fish

Jon Becker
Jon Becker: Real Estate Agent in Traverse City, MI

Here is an excerpt from an article in the Feb. 2008 Filed & Stream magazine that states Traverse City, Michigan as the #3 Best place in the United States to Live & Fish. "A Freshwater Wonderland"

"Between May and October, there is no consitently better place to be fishing in America than Traverse City, Mich. Diversity is the key: Lake Michigan with salmon and stealhead; Grand Traverse Bay with some of the best smallmouth pockets and carp flats in America; and more rivers and natural lakes filled with trout, bass, and panfish than you can begin to touch in one season. The calendar in Traverse City is honest - spectacular yellow birches in the fall, frosty white winters, damp misty springs, and radiant blue-green summers. The true outdoor aficionado finds solace ( and opportunity) in every month here, be it fishing, hunting, cross country skiing, or hiking. It's an affordable, yet polished, place to be. And the hometown culture is still a classic slice of Rockwell-esque Americana."

"* Local Secret: Many Michiganders save thousands of dollards in exotic travel expenses by enjoying authentic-style flats fishing-for carp-in the shallows around Grand Traverse Bay. Use and 8-weight and Brown Woolly Bugger as you stalk schools of 50 or more fish that spawn in skinny water.

*The Scene: New Years Day isn't January 1 to Michigan fisherman; it's the last Saturday in April- the traditional trout opener. South of Traverse City along the western esde of the "mitten" you might find the last remnants of the stealhead run mixing with the first spring mayfly hatches in rivers from the Rogue to Little Manistee.

* Move Here Because: You love boats, fishing, hunting and all four seasons."

The Month of April when the Turkey season takes place is a wonderful time to be in the woods. The mornings and nights are still cool with the days warm and sunny! The past few years we have seen a boom in the Turkeypopulation with lots of mature gobblers taken by hunters. The Traverse City area has the perfect Turkey Hunting terrain, lots of big ridges with mature hardwood trees, plenty of marshes and streams, clear cuts and fields for strutting. There are plenty of places to explore and hunt Turkey throughout the area, including the ever popular Pere Marquette State Forest.

There are accommodations here in Traverse City for everyones taste, style and budget. I prefere to camp in the spring and that is free. All you need is a permit from the DNR.

While your here give me a call and I will show you some of the great hunting properties and camps available for sale in the area!
