While the number of homes sold in Lake County, Michigan in February 2012 remained the same as in January 2012 - 6 homes closed each month - the dollar volume increased by about 81%, from $306,000 to $555,000! Sounds like a great trend, that I hope continues!

Lake County has had some large economic challenges over the past year that have affected home sales, including the closing of the remodeled correctional facility. It has recently been in the news with speculations of when it may re-open in the near future with a new plan, and bring back needed jobs in the area.

The news is out. Geo Group will be reopening the prison in Baldwin, MI. The NorthLake Correctional Facility will be accepting prisoners starting around May of 2011. Considering the number of inmates at around 2,500 and with a staff of another 450 the Northern Lake County area will be a hot spot for real estate.
