Golf outings are used as a popular fundraiser by many charities, drawing in money from golfers and event sponsors.

On Sunday, May 22nd the non profit organization, Corner Pieces, will hold a golf outing at the Lapeer Country Club. Corner Pieces is a Michigan based organization which uses technology to help children with autism.

The Lions Bear Lake Golf Classic will take place at the Metamora Golf and Country Club on Saturday, May 14th. The Lapeer Lions Club provides eye glasses and other eye care for local blind and visually impaired children and residents through a number of projects. The Bear Lake Camp is designed to help visually impaired children with a safe, fun camping environment.

On Sunday, June 5th theMetamora Golf and Country Club will host the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship Qualifier. The event is open to boys and girls ages 10 - 18 from the Lapeer area and Michigan district.

The Lapeer Aerie #2427 Golf Outing has been set for Saturday, June 11th at the Lapeer Country Club. The event starts at 8:30 am with a shotgun start and 4 person scramble.

The Made-In-Michigan Film Society is one of Lapeer MI hidden gems. The film society works to make the Lapeer MI area an attractive filming location and works to bring filmmakers to the area. They also put on a full-scale film festival in downtown Lapeer each year.

The mission statement of the organization and the purpose for all its projects is to enrich the local area both culturally and economically. By showcasing Michigan-made films, the society hopes to further promote the arts in the area.

Currently, the struggling downtown Lapeer MI real estate market features mostly arts businesses, including literature, music, movies and art. Many community leaders and business owners hope the arts will therefore be a strong foundation of downtown Lapeer MI when things start to turn around.

The film society has compiled a list of possible Lapeer real estate locations in the county to film, including historic buildings and scenic agricultural land. The recent filming at the historic Lapeer County courthouse shows that the film society's work is already starting to pay off.

But what many residents do not realize is that the film society has filmmakers, producers and actors in the area all the time. In other film society news, the date for the 4th annual Made-In-Michigan Film Festival has been set for 10-21 & 22-2011. The festival will again take place at the Pix Theatre and is open to any and all Michigan-made films.
