In St Cloud MN there are 3 residential historic neighborhoods: The Pantown Historic District, Barden Park Historic District, and the Southside Historic District.
In 1992 the Heritage Preservation Commission took a survey of the St Cloud MN area to find the most architecturally significant and historic sites in the city. In 1998 they began work on their first nomination for a local historic district, they chose the Southside Neighborhood.
The Southside Historic Neighborhood runs from 9th Avenue South to the Mississippi River just north of St Cloud State University, and includes some of the most ornate and beautiful homes in the city. From Craftsman to Victorian with features like carriage houses, cupolas and turrets, and architectural creativity on display even to the casual observer. Take a walk or a drive in this historic district and you won't be disappointed.
Part of the charm of the neighborhood is the presence of the river, the university, and mature trees everywhere. The Southside Historic District is full of character in a way a new subdivision is not, there is history and charm in abundance.
If you dig a little there are interesting stories to be learned and retold. Many of these homes are personal residences, having been lovingly restored. One is a bed & breakfast, and a few have been converted to rentals and accomodate great numbers of college students, a fraternity or sorority.
One of the grandest of all the Southside Historic homes was damaged by fire and is waiting for it's next owner to repair and restore it to the stunning beauty it really is.
The Southside Historic Neighborhood District is a mainstay and one of the best of all of the wonderful reasons to love St. Cloud.

Posts are being written on the Pantown Historic District and the Barden Park Historic District neighborhoods, so if you really enjoy historic homes please check back to see more of what makes St Cloud such a special place to live. Tours of St Cloud's historic homes are offered during the Granite City Days Celebration.
I would strongly suggest, if you can, to go on any of the St Cloud Historic homes tour, some of the interior features and craftmanship are outstanding from large granite fireplaces, to grand foyers and of course stunning hardwood floors.

I think the St Cloud MN area is a great place and I am not the only one. St Cloud MN is featured in a national commercial for the Tempur-Pedic Cloud. I was surprised to see some very local places featured on a commercial the other evening including a home I sold.
I really enjoy living in St Cloud MN, and when you sell real estate in an area for a while you can really get to know a town. Most of the places featured in the commercial are well known in our area and easily identifiable, the Dutch Maid Bakery, the SCSU Hockey rink, the Paramount theater, and one, not so well known, but very nice historic home.
