Now open the new and improved Amphitheater in Lampe, MO on Table Rock Lake will be rocking out this summer! The theater has had many big names over the years like Ted Nugent, and Ozzy Osborne, but has been closed down for 10 years. I hope they are doing well this season and they seem to have a good line-up with some 80's rock and Classic Country. Click on the link below to see who's playing.

The Sounds of music.......


I remember sitting on our deck in Shell Knob and hearing music drift over the waters of Table Rock Lake. We had just moved to our Shell Knob home a few months earlier. It was facinating for this City Girl to see lizards zipping around the Ozark rocks; Armadillos rooting in the yard; birds everywhere - which I had never seen before, and now........MUSIC On The Water!

That was 20 years ago, and the music stopped soon after that summer. We learned that what we heard were concerts at the Swiss Villa Amphitheater. It was host to entertainers such as The Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Ozzie Osborn, but fell on hard times. The Villa closed, deteriorated, then had a fire that took care of what was left.

A new amphitheater has been built and renamed 'Black Oak Mountain Amphitheater'. It will open Memorial Week end with Lee Greenwood. There are 5,400 reserved seats, with room for 2,000 more General Admission grassy seating, according to amphitheater manager Steven White.

Several big names have been lined up for this season by John McEuen, a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. This initial 2010 Season will include entertainment by Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Styx, Kansas, and Foreigner, with Travis Tritt and Tanya Tucker scheduled for June 11th.

Looks like - or should I say 'Sounds Like' - I will be nicely entertained on my waterfront deck this summer.

I heard of a new restaurant in our Shell Knob area this week. It's family owned and run - not a cookie-cutter franchise. It is called The Fillin' Station.

According to family member, Paula Andersen, the name dates back in time to when familes habitually went to the same neighborhood gas station.

When you got there, you would have your gas pumped for you, windows washed, oil and tire pressure checked. The service included more than just taking your money. You had a relationship with the people at the Station. They knew your name and your needs.

Located on Hwy 13 in Lampe, MO, the modern day Fillin' Station, will be family friendly. Outfitted as an old fashioned Fillin' Station for the hungry patron, the food will be generous. Offerings include home-made cobblers and smoked KC style barbecue, with meat that comes from local sources.

Sounds good to me. I look forward to trying some of that barbecue.
