About Franklin County, MS

Okhissa Lake in Franklin County, MS, has new website

Thomas (Tom) Morgan Hometown Realty, Inc.: Real Estate Agent in McComb, MS

There's a new website for Okhissa Lake near Meadville, MS, and it's packed with good information! The website address is http://okhissalake.com . On the site you'll find photos of the lake, fishing news, area events, lodging and restaurant information, an online lake store, tips and videos, an ask the expert column, and more.

Okhissa Lake, part of the Homochitto National Forest, opened in November 2007. It is about an 1,800 acre lake surrounded by 4,400 acres of beautiful national forest land. It is about 2 ½ miles long and up to a mile or so wide. There are two boat ramps and lots of parking and picnic space. It was originally stocked over time with 80,000 Florida bass, 30,000 blue gill bream, 200,000 catfish, and 300,000 fat head minnows.

Okhissa Lake is the first Bill Dance Signature Lake. There have been some fishing tournaments there already. I will try to keep you posted on future events, and will post pictures after I visit again. I went once or twice before it opened, and have been itching to go now that the fish are kickin'! By the way, you can now ski on the lake-see the website above for details!

(The link to Homochitto National Forest is not working at the time of this posting. Here is the general Mississippi National Forests link: http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/mississippi/ )
