Winter season is here!

Yellowstone Park is now open for the winter season!

There are a number of commercial firms that are licensed to do tours in this pristine wilderness both by snow coach and snowmobile. The wildlife can be amazing silhouetted against the snow covered terrain and the geysers breathe life into the crisp clean air. It is a beauty not to miss.

If you are trying to plan some winter activities, you might need to check out the Winter Information for 2011-2012 that contains the general guidelines that will be useful during your planning stages. There are also some Ranger Led programs that might be intriguing to fit into your schedule. BILLINGS, Montana (AP) - Yellowstone National Park will let in 720 snowmobiles a day - the same as the past three winters - while officials try to form a long-term access plan amid challenges from recreational users and conservationists.

Park spokesman Al Nash said administrators decided to revert to the old temporary plan so they could dive immediately into developing a long-term solution.

The decision marked the latest turn in a decades-long struggle between snowmobile advocates, who want more recreational access, and conservation groups that say too many of the machines degrade the park's natural beauty.

This year in particular has been wrought with inconsistent legal rulings.

In September, U.S. District Judge Andrew Sullivan in Washington, D.C. voiced concern that an earlier park proposal to allow 540 machines daily would cause air pollution and disturb wildlife. He threw out that plan and told the park service to come up with a new one.

In response, park administrators said Nov. 3 that they planned to allow 318 snowmobiles daily while they worked on a long-term plan.

The Yellowstone Ski Festival is rapidly approaching. Teams, coaches, racers, skiers, and families will head to West Yellowstone and the Rendezvous Ski Trails from November 25th-29th this year. Many folks are starting to make travel plans and for those of you landing in Bozeman, Montana (BZN) we are pleased to offer the services of Karst Stage Shuttle Transportation.

Karst Stage operates year round airport shuttle service from the Bozeman airport to nearby communities, including West Yellowstone (WYS). The Yellowstone Ski Festival and Karst Stage have arranged for service over Thanksgiving week. As many of you know, West Yellowstone is a small town with trails, restaurants, and shopping within walking distance from most properties. Rental cars are rarely used after arriving at the Yellowstone Ski Festival.

Shuttles to WYS will depart the airport at 3:00pm and 8:00pm on 11/24 & 11/25, 3:00pm, 8:00pm and Midnight on 11/26. Shuttles from WYS to the airport depart at 3:00am, 5:00am and 9:00am on 11/29 & 30th. The Conference rate for the Yellowstone Ski Festival is $109.00/person round trip and $60/person one way if you travel to WYS on 11/24, 11/25 or 11/26 and to the airport on 11/29 or 11/30. There is a $1.50/person airport tax for all shuttles leaving the Bozeman Airport. To qualify for the festival rate be sure to enter YSF in the Conference or Group box at the bottom of the online reservation form. All online reservations will be confirmed by email. An AMEX, MC or Visa account number and expiration date is required to guarantee your reservation (their web site is secured).
