warm socks at first freeze- and Asheville Beaver Lake

Asheville Style- warm socks at first freeze
I love the prospect of warm socks at first freeze,
just the soldierlike look of them in neat rows
lined up before me
next to the French-milled soaps
in the second dresser drawer
where they have bunkered down,
neglected since the daffodils bloomed.
A colorful assemblage they,
in vibrant vermillion,
or glamorous grey,
or in umber, or in those multi-hued,
patiently waiting to be tapped
for duty.
I am dancing now in the hours after donning
the pair - carolina blue ,
with my tweeds and outdoor duds,
cashmere caressing my lucky toes,
what else can I do?
For now, I am royalty lifted above the fray
simply to stroll Doc Silver's nippy back forty
as if it were a mild summer's day
but better: no insects or tall grasses where the
slithering creatures play-
just the Land
and, here and there,
on the north side of the ridge,
little trickles
making icicles
where once ran summer's sweet cascades.
Fallen leaves,
still wet with yesterday's storm,
are slick on the trail.
Yet, I float along, wind at my back, scarf flying,
hiking boots, muddy and well-worn,
feet smiling in blue-clad luxury.
We are searching for the last bit of wild to be touted,
and I reveal the secret:
"... cherished toes pay dividends uncounted...."

The Real Estate Neighborhood Review Journal of Asheville:
Lakeview Park
The sidewalks in Walkable Asheville's Lakeview Park run down to greet Beaver Lake. First created in 1920, Beaver Lake is man-made. It grew from the damming of Beaver Creek. For me, this “private lake” shines like a diamond in the carolina blue sky, for, although it is “private” the Lakeview Park walkable community welcomes Asheville residents and those relocating to Asheville to stroll, sit and enjoy ,canoe the lake, or jog aroung its perimeter. And if ,any given day, during the winter, spring, summer or fall of the year, you may see the young and the young-at-heart at play.
“Upscale” Walkable Asheville Neighborhood
By 1922, an “upscale” housing development known as Lakeview Park that centered around Beaver Lake began to emerge.
It so pleases my real estate clients here in Asheville to say that what was first envisioned so many years ago today continues to delight visitors and residents alike.
We walk the Lakeview Park neighborhood and down to Beaver Lake almost every week.
Lakeview Park 2012: We stroll the neighborhood, visit with our neighbors along the way and continue to be amazed with the views of the surrounding mountains, sweet picnic spots, colorful canoes gliding by and the much-prized sense that it evokes. . . “all’s right” ...
Homes: Here in Lakeview Park you will find an interesting mix of historic and newer homes, tree-lined streets, and lovely views of Asheville’s rolling hills …and, of course, Beaver Lake.
Neighbors: This is a mature community. There area several second and/or vacation homes in this area, yet neighbors have a strong community voice.

Lakeview Park- North Asheville’s Walkable Neighborhood—

where children play, and folks of all ages visit with one another under a canopy of trees, and ride bikes or walk just down the block to enjoy the magic of Beaver Lake.
As I wrote yesterday's post about Sweet Rosie Sinead, I imagined where she and her husband might have lived.
Where did she sit to watch the children play? And where might they have walked almost every week, throughout the seasons? Immediately I thought of my own neighborhood—
Asheville NC Lakeview Park!
This walkable neighborhood in North Asheville, so beautiful at any time of year!
Here you may choose to visit with your neighbors, and continue (gratefully) to be amazed with the views of the surrounding mountains, the proximity of welcoming picnic spots, the colorful canoes gliding by, and the sense of "all's right" that seems to permeate the air.
No wonder, the Lakeview Park neighborhood is a neighborhood in which the people simply delight
Here are links to three (3) earlier posts and photos of Lakeview Park, updated with current real estate information. (Homes for Sale : 14 Price range: $300K-2.5M)

Sweet Rosie Sinead
Old as the Carolina hills
but agile still,
she melts, without a sound,
into her baby blue plumpity chair,
her beloved perch-by-the-window where
most days she settles in
to watch the children and the zephyrs play,
to live a verse or two
of her life as
"the last leaf on the tree"... .
Yet, in this very moment,
she is not alone, she sees!
To her amazement,
a visitor, unknown,
has dropped by,
like the ghost of August,
has "set -a-spell"
has cut the last rose of Asheville’s Summer
has placed it well
upon his side table,
(that hand-carved treasure
her husband made.)
Atop the Old Man’s well-worn Works of Shelley,
just now she spies that single yellow rose, that scent, that smell
that promise of Forever Love that to her he gave
singing, "Oh My Sweet Rosie-Sinead."
Remembering it all,
she hums along.
In these last hours, November calls,
and soon will come the white and wintry weather
for which they 'll watch and wait together....
as leaves fall.
and mysteries rise.

Homes: Within view or walking distance of Beaver Lake are homes known for the subtle elegance and nod
to nature.
Romance and history are in the air, (see Part 1) so expect to " feel" the artistic influences. Even residents of other neighborhoods in and around Asheville find themselves drawn to Beaver Lake and the surrounding neighborhood..
Maybe you will see them strolling around the Lake nand-in-hand on a sunny Sunday afternoon. (see photo) . Maybe you will notice how often they stop to gaze at the majestic homes that grace the streets
Neighbors: Like most neighborhoods in Asheville, NC, the folks who live here (many of whom are "Cultural Creatives -- architects, designers, teachers, authors, doctors, poets, lawyers, and gallery artists) are known for old-fashioned neighborliness. Here you can meet neighbors walking thier dogs around the Lake, or out with babies in strollers, or at the counter of local eateries and grocery stores.
Atmosphere: Inviting!
Pet -Friendly: Yes!
Price Range: $300,000 to 3,000,000+
