Fall has Arrived in Western North Carolina
I had to run out to Bat Cave today, and decided to also head into Chimney Rock Village as well. After all it was a gorgeous fall day and the colors were just spectacular. Both are located on the eastern area of Henderson County and east of Downtown Hendersonville.
Bat Cave was named for a cave filled with Bats. The Bat Cave is owned by The Nature Conservancy, which is a non profit organization that is committed to preserving land in the area and saving it from development. They give tours of the cave in the summer. You have to sign up early as they only have a few dates, and a few spots per date. I have yet to see Batman or Robin out there, but keep looking.
Chimney Rock Village is the next town south of Bat Cave. This small town is situated at the base of the Chimney Rock State Park. Until a few years ago, this park was privately owned by the Morse Family since 1902. It was recently acquired by the North Carolina State Park System.
I stopped into the Old Rock Cafe for a bite to eat. They have the best burgers and fries, and a great deck overlooking the river that flows along the back of the shops along the highway.
The Village has provided a great walkway along the river. It runs behind the shops and is landscaped and allows access to the river and the beautiful rocks. Several eateries have decks overlooking the water, making for a great ambiance.
I really love the drive out to this area and fall is the best time of all. It was gorgeous today. The leaves are beautiful right now and the day was sunny and perfect. I had time to walk along Main street before heading home, and here are some of the things I saw!
I hope you enjoy the pictures!
