What is with me and Stray Black Labs in Clayton? Another Stray Black Lab Rescued By David O'

Stray Black Lab Rescued

I was heading home on Sunday to watch the Superbowl and had just pulled into my Neighborhood when this big black lab comes running across the road in front of me. I stopped and turned to see him run across a major road, luckily there were no cars.

I got out and went across to try and catch him and he was acting like a pup who was too scared to stop. He went behind a fence and I lost him. I got back in the car and was about to continue when he comes bounding across the road again and this time almost got hit twice!

I went after him again, of course he was gone in a flash, so I waited and called and called and out of the blue he comes charging for me, this could be good or bad I thought, so I lunged for the collar and managed to get a hold of him.

I put the nasty smelling, dirty critter in the car ( that I had not just cleaned). Put him in our back yard and let our lab Carly out to investigate. They had an absolute blast, after some pecking order was worked out, Carly did the pecking.

I found a stray black lab in Clayton under the exact same conditions about two years ago and brought that one to the no kill shelter where he was eventually adopted.

Stray Black Lab Rescued

This one had a collar but no tags WHY? I grew very fond of him in a short while as did my youngest son Rory and Carly did as well although she won't admit it. I thought if no body claims him we would keep him and he would have a blast with Carly......Guess what.

Kelly posted an add on Craigslist on Monday and within two hours he had been claimed.

Jim Warns About Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Clogged Dryer Vents and Poor Air Flow

08-28-08
Jim Buie
Jim Buie: Environmental Services in Raleigh, NC

If you have a gas powered clothes dryer in your home, regular maintenance on that appliance could mean a difference between life and death. Gas appliances cost less to operate, but they come with a number of responsibilities to make sure they are being safely used in your home.

As the dryer works its magic, drying your clothes, it is also burning gas fuel, and letting off carbon monoxide. In a normal dryer vent system this is released from your home through the ducts behind the dryer that also take the hot air out of your home. But in a clogged dryer vent, where it's harder for the air to escape, the levels of carbon monoxide may increase in your home. Too much carbon monoxide can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning which at its worst can lead to death.

Some of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are:

Dizziness

Headaches

Nausea

Feeling faint and tired

Many people who experience these symptoms don't realize it until it's too late. They attribute their symptoms to some other reason. With carbon monoxide, you may not even smell the fuel leak as it takes over your home.

What if you are feeling the symptoms?

Once you have the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, even if you aren't sure that is what they are, you should get some fresh air and turn off the appliances. Walk outside for a little while and see if you feel better. If you do, you should open up all the windows and doors to open up your house for some time after the appliances are turned off.

It is likely other members of your family are feeling the same types of symptoms as you are. If your symptoms are severe, you should go to the hospital and report that you believe you may be suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The best way to deal with carbon monoxide poisoning is to prevent it in the first place. Like the furnace, which most people have serviced regularly, a clothes dryer should also have periodic professional inspection, cleaning and maintenance. A professional will clean everything out, be sure there is proper air flow and let you know if there are any parts that may soon become problems, so you can catch them before they occur.
