Dutchman Downs subdivision is in the middle of Cary (almost!) these days. We purchased a nice brick ranch on 2.5 acres several years ago and chose to remodel the whole thing! (WHAT WERE WE THINKING???)
So I'm starting at TOWARD the end of this story (still a long way to go) but we're so excited with recent progress that I've just GOT to share some of it.
In the next several posts, I'll go back to the start...the original looks of things, the removal of the original roofline, the waterproofing of the basement (not what we expected to spend mega $$ on!) and move through the next couple of years during this project.

At this point we are SO grateful we didn't finance this project, but chose to "pay as we go"! We've been asked many times if we were planning to "flip" this house.....I DON'T THINK SO! (Maybe because I'm a Realtor and my husband is a remodeling contractor??)
These are a couple of pictures of the master bathroom. My husband, the wonderfulest contractor I've ever met, has built each and every cabinet in the house...each drawer, each cabinet door!!!
The placement of the tile in this Master Bath took hours of searching for pictures of what I had in mind on Google. And preliminary talks took weeks to try to convince him to change his thinking about ""horizontal vs vertical"...BUT now we do both love it.
Hope you'll give your opinions too.

Check out the trim around the windows - 1/2 inch mosaic tiles instead of wood trim. Glass to the right into the shower.

Vertical 12x24 tiles, pebble rock floor in double shower, vertical mosiac accents, clear glass door & "windows"

Same 12x24 tiles on the wall, mosaic around the other window, 20x20 tiles on the floor.

Looking into the shower - notice the vertical accent mosaics, double shower heads, diagonal floor tiles.

Custom built vanity - sink on either side, shaker style fronts and will have custom concrete countertops. (Left side is mine :-)

Dutchman Downs subdivision between Penny Road and Ten Ten Road - Cary, Raleigh, or Apex ?

Dutchman Downs is a lovely oasis - not YET annexed into Cary NC - but surrounded by Cary or Apex with a Raleigh NC address ! The reason is that if you are located in Wake County but are not annexed, then apparently you have a Raleigh NC address !
Dutchman Downs is a wonderful area with lot sizes from just under one acre on up to 10 acres or more. There are homes built from the 1970's on through 2005. Well & septic as there are no "city" amenities.
However, the advantages of living outside city limits, in my mind, far outweigh the offerings of "city" living!
First of all - Bonfires! Bonfires are legal outside city limits! You can burn your leaves! You can roast marshmallows!

I thought you might enjoy some pictures of Dutchman Downs.
There's a lovely lake with beach, club house for rent, playground and community pool.

Homes in Dutchman Downs range from the upper $200,000 to well over $600,000. A wide variety of styles, shapes & sizes !
