Recently I was previewing some $125,000.00 and below properties for some clients and my search came up with 8 that could be promising. It took me all afternoon to drive in all directions and I did find a couple of really, cute, adorable cottages here in the W. Carolina Mtns .; well worth the money they were asking. Any of you that know the Highlands and Cashiers, NC area, know that it is has some of the most expensive homes in America or in close competition with....beach front property and islands, etc. (Yes, we even have an island with homes for sale on it, high-end homes.) You boat there to get home.
Well, there's still room for we that want to live here and be the 'working class' . Such was the friends/clients that I was searching for.
Aghast was not 'my' wording when I came to two listings right here in the heart of Cashiers for $100,000.00 each. The floors were like roller coaster rides, the walls were the 'wave of the future' and the almost fallen 'angels' were almost falling...a good wind would do it. All this 'doom and gloom' on less than a quarter of an acre with road easements within inches of the bedroom walls. Who put these prices on these beauties?
As having been in real estate appraising in the past, I reasoned that the ?comps? were what brought their prices up...or some inexperienced agent...or some Seller that thinks everything he owns is gold...or was there oil in the ground? I don't rightly know in my most Southern verbage, but the land, in my opinion wouldn't even be worth that with those easements right at 'heaven's door'. It would cost you $10,000.00 just to tear it down. My, oh, my. Even a good carpenter couldn't do right by these precious, little darlings...I know that they've got soul, and a wonderful history, but honey, sometimes it's just time to ...go.

Many of you are familiar with the devastating effects of the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) on the beautiful hemlock trees in our area. According to the US Forest Service, these pests will kill a hemlock tree within a few years. The HWA does not have enough natural enemies here to keep it in check, and the hemlock trees have not built up a resistance to it.
The good news is that there are effective insecticidal treatments for infected trees, as well as preventative measures that can be taken to protect healthy trees. The Jackson-Macon Conservation Alliance (JMCA) provides helpful tips on how to treat against the HWA and save our properties and forests from this invasive and destructive insect. Visit the JMCA website at http://www.j-mca.org/hemlock.asp.

If it's the natural beauty of water your looking for be it a 200 +/- foot fall or just the tranquil sounds of a meandering creek the this is the place for you. As the water drops below this magnificent deck, one can sit and enjoy the sounds with a nap or indulge in a fine glass of wine as the sun sets in the distance.
To the left is one of our many rock faces where the water gently cascades before dropping into a beautiful clear pool. At right is a 6 roadside fall, just one of the many natural beauties to be shared by all.
Below left is another roadside fall. This fall meanders through Creekside at The Divide. This particular fall is a great example of the many types of foliage that grow in, on and around the many falls of Bald Rock and The Divide at Bald Rock.
As you cross this rustic bridge in Bald Rock you can not help but be overcome from the sounds of the cascading fall below. There are many bridges like this one in Bald Rock each with a unique purpose and design.
Here a split rail fence creates a gorgeous back drop for yet another on of the many cascading creeks that run throughout both Bald Rock and the Divide. The fall below is situated in one of the many common areas in Bald Rock. Whether it is a simple hike with the family or just reading a book with an ideal background you can find it all in Bald Rock and The Divide at Bald Rock. This particular fall is one of my favorite spots to eat lunch.... It is the perfect setting for a quick lunch or a full on 5 course picnic.
Above is the bottom section of the falls pictures at right. In the summer you can find many of the neighbors relaxing by these falls and they make the perfect spot to get your feet wet on a beautiful summer day. To the right is continental falls. This fall boasts a drop of 200 +/- feet and is a sight to behold any time of year. Many lots in both Creekside
at The Divide as well as above the falls have fantastic views of this monstrous waterfall. Below is the bottom section of continental falls.
