It's that time of year again! School starts in Charlotte on August 25, 2011, and children and their parents are scurrying around buying school supplies, comparing teachers, and getting excited for the start of another school
year!
For students entering/returning to Providence Spring Elementary School (PSE) in South Charlotte, here's a summary of all you need to know regarding the Providence Spring Elementary school calendar and registration process for Fall 2011:

August 25, 2011 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! Summer assignments DUE!!!
August 25 - 30, 2011 - Staggered classes for kindergartners
August 31, 2011 - ALL kindergartners attend school the full day
September 6, 2011 - OPEN HOUSE night for Kindergarten - 2nd grade parents. 6:30 - 8:00 pm
September 8, 2011 - OPEN HOUSE night for 3rd - 5th grade parents. 6:30 - 8:00 pm
September 16, 2011 - New parent coffee. 9:15 - 10:00 am
September 21, 2011 - FALL individual student pictures

Two of my children are "graduates" PSE, and we were thrilled with the school and how it prepared the students for middle school and beyond. Providence Spring Elementary is one of the top-ranked public schools in Charlotte and North Carolina, and continues to be named an "Honor School of Excellence."

Providence Spring Elementary School - Top Ranked Public School in Charlotte NC
If you're looking for an exceptional top ranked public elementary school in Charlotte NC, you won't need to look any farther than Providence Spring Elementary School. Ideally located in Southeast Charlotte on a sprawling 23-acre private campus, Providence Spring Elementary School consistently scores at the top of the elementary schools in Charlotte AND in the whole state of North Carolina.
Providence Spring Elementary School is named a NC Honor School of Excellence every year, meaning that it achieves a pass rating of over 90% on test scores, exceeded one-year growth goals, and met targets for the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
The school features 36 classrooms on two levels, and includes auxiliary classrooms for art (with a kiln), music, enrichment and talent development, resources (speech, tutoring, etc.) and a computer lab. This school is not lacking for current technology - last year, the computer lab received 31 new computers, and each classrooms received an additional 2 new computers. With SMART boards in every classroom and auxiliary class, Providence Spring Elementary School students are able to pursue learning in an interesting and interactive way.
A unique addition to the campus is the schools outdoor classroom, which allows for experiential learning outside. Two of my kids are Providence Spring Elementary School "graduates," and I can attest to how "cool" the outdoor classroom is. There are plenty of opportunities for student growth at the school with these activities: Odyssey of the Mind, Science Olympiad, Chess Club, Battle of the Books, Safety Patrol, Girls on the Run, Young Writers Society, Mystery Class and Quiz Bowl.
The staff at Providence Spring Elementary School is top-shelf! Led by
Principal Diane Adams, the faculty has 16 National Board Certified teachers and many state and national award winners. Steve Houser was awarded the 2009 Award for Excellence in Earth Science Teaching, and Kathy Conroy received the President's award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2009. Coupled with a strong PTA, the staff and parent leaders at Providence Spring Elementary School have been able to raise academic standards at the school each year, even in the face of stringent education budget cuts.
