There is a great boating store in Cornelius, NC near Lake Norman called West Marine and they are currently having a HUGE sale!

Not only do they have boat supplies, but they have maps of the local fresh water lakes, boating safety, but they also carry guides and the boating rules of Lake Norman and North Carolina lakes. I often refer newcomers to the area to visit this store if they are going boating.

Mac and I have a 1 year membership and also unlimited towing because we save a ton of money when we buy boating supplies. We often go there for ropes, cleats, life jackets, sunglasses, watches, bumpers,and other cool lake gear.

Life jackets,bumpers, and ropes tend to walk off when you go to tie-ups frequently. We also have the boat towing because the boat is a 1978 Carver, so you never know when you'll need it! However, we've seen many newer boats get towed the last couple of years. Cross your fingers that you don't need it!

Fountain Court Lofts Catawba Ave on Hold - Cornelius NC News

The Fountains LoftFountain Court Lofts project put on hold for now and waits for decision from the Cornelius Town Board.

They have developed two unique floor plans that represent the best in efficiency and design. The plans achieve a modern urban atmosphere juxtaposed to the natural beauty of Lake Norman. With nature in mind we are committed to building green and have registered the Fountain Court Lofts for LEED certification.

The Lofts will have stain concrete floors, stone countertops, as well as other earth friendly finishes. They will be fitted with increased efficiency heating and cooling systems and appliances. Fountain Court will be constructed in such a way as protect our environment and preserve our resources.

It all sounds good and I would like to see this come to fruition but the board had some reservations. One concern is what tenants will put on their balconies which will be facing Catawba Ave. They do not want to see laundry and other items hanging from railings. Could that not be solved by your HOA policies?

The other concern is traffic. Once the Ramsey Creek Parkis converted to public swimming board members are worried that without a traffic light at Nantz Road it may cause some congestion. So let's get a light!

The developers believe this site is perfect for something different and I tend to agree. Within walking distance to the new Westmoreland Athletic Complex as well as Ramsey Creek Park would allow residents easy access to both without driving.

Antiquity Cornelius NC - Towns first pedestrian-friendly development

Antiquity Cornelius NCAntiquity located in Cornelius NC is beign touted as the first pedestrian-friendly development.

Developers and residents say the Antiquity subdivision will transform downtown Cornelius while likely making it a prominent destination community.

Positioned to be built around the Charlotte Area Transit System's planned extension of the North Corridor Commuter Rail into the Lake Norman area.

Currently about 20 percent of all lots are occupied while the other 80 percent of the development has roads and infrastructure in place. No commercial development is underway, but the subdivision is expected to house coffee shops, restaurants and other retail shops driven by consumer services. The estimated project value could exceed $250 million when finished, developer Joe Roy said.

Antiquity is the town's only subdivision that has been growing over the last three years despite the economy and housing market troubles, said Cornelius town manager Anthony Roberts.

"That's a testament to the quality of the development," Roberts said. "To be selling like they are, it has to be offering something."

Among the community's current or planned offerings are a 30-acre park, a community pool, a 1,500-seat amphitheater, hiking and biking trails, sidewalks lined with fruit-bearing trees and even a vineyard of muscadine grapes.

The streets inside Antiquity will be lined with about 1,000 residences designed to appeal to families, young professionals and empty-nesters. Tucked in and around the apartments, townhouses and single-family homes being built will be nine mini parks. Single-family homes range from the low $200,000s to $400,000s. Townhomes start in the low $100,000s.

The approximate 130-acre "smart-growth" community is known for its rustic, covered bridge that connects to downtown Davidson via South Street. Smart-growth communities seek to preserve an area's natural and cultural resources by planning for mixed-land uses and walkable neighborhoods.
