On March 17, 2010 HB4867 was introduced being titled "Corolla Wild Horse Protection Act". It has been referred to the House committee on Natural Resources. It has a long way to travel before becoming a law but the introduction of this bill is monumental for the horses. The bill will will change the allowable heard size to a number not yet determined as they are waiting for a formal written recommendation from Dr. Cothran as to a target population range.
This is thanks to the efforts of Congressman Walter B. Jones. Congressman Jones has taken action to ensure that the wild horses of the Currituck Outer Banks will remain here for generations to come.

"Winter storms on the Outer Banks have uncovered the remains of what may be the oldest shipwreck on the North Carolina coast, experts say. For more information check out the article from the Virginia Pilot.
The coastline of North Carolina's Outer Banks is littered with shipwrecks that often appear after a big storm, and then disappear under the sand again. This unusually harsh winter may have uncovered the old shipwreck ever found in NC. Here is an article from UPI.com.
Investigators from the North Carolina Underwater Archaeology Branch came to Corolla, N.C., to document the estimated 400-year-old wreck before it disappears, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Wednesday. The wreck has already drifted two miles since storms uncovered it in December.
"It wants to go south," Branch curator Nathan Henry said.
During its movement floorboards and the keel of the 70-foot ship have come loose and disappeared, and the wreck is in danger of completely falling apart, the Virginian-Pilot said. Some local residents, including the avid beachcomber who first discovered the wreck, want it raised from the sands and preserved.
"It's going to go to pieces," Ray Midgett said. "I would love to see them save it."
Experts estimate the wreck is even older than the famous remains of Blackbeard's ship the Queen Anne's Revenge, which sank in 1718 near Beaufort, S.C."
