Thanksgiving Gifts From My Mountain Garden in Murphy, North Carolina

Kate Wheeler CCIM Murphy NC Real Estate for Sale: Real Estate Agent in Murphy, NC

Today my youngest daughter and I made mountain memories. We took a break from baking pies and chopping vegetables to wander through the garden, collecting the last of Nature's bounty to create a centerpiece for our holiday table.

The knockout roses are still blooming, despite the frost a few weeks ago. We'll clip the last of those to enjoy. They'll go nicely with clusters of bright red berries from the nandina bushes.

I'll add sprigs of rosemary from the bush that's grown so large, along with some holly. I've never been able to grow holly in any of my other gardens - like a horticultural Goldilocks, I found Northern Michigan too cold and the Florida Keys too hot.

But the mild climate and bountiful rainfall here in this part of the Southern mountains allows an enormous variety of plant life to thrive.

I'll make another tablescape for the Great Room using a few live plants that haven't made it into the ground yet. One of these purple kale plants surrounded by white pansies, with cuttings of ivy filling in can go into a rustic container until the next time I get an afternoon off to garden.

We've collected so much that there's enough to make an extra bouquet or two. One of these will go to welcome our neighbors down the street. I sold them their retirement home here in the mountains several years ago and they've spent every vacation and holiday here. Yesterday I found out they sold their house in southern Alabama and now they'll be able to be here in the mountains full time.

We'll drop off jars of wild blackberry jam made from the berries we picked along our mountain road back in June.

And tomorrow, I'll give thanks for the blessings Nature bestows on us here in the North Carolina mountains.

MURPHY NC - HOW A DEER CLOSED A SALE!!!!

Bonnie DuPree: Real Estate Agent in Murphy, NC

In Murphy, NC we are have a lot of deer. During the Fall I see deer at least 4 times a week on my way to and from the office. I recently had a couple from Florida who I have been working with for several months to help them find their perfect retirement home.

We pulled up to a home which had a creek running along the side of the property. We got out of the car and they immediately walked over to the creek and commented on how soothing the rushing water sounded and how peaceful and secluded the property was. I glanced to my right and noticed what I thought was a statue of a deer bedded down in the grass...

Well.... to my surprise when I started walking towards the statue it moved... I recently read some articles about deer and their behavior and I remember specifically if deer are bedded down do not attempt to approach them because they might charge you... We proceeded to go into the home and when we were in the kitchen my client looked out the kitchen window and notice the doe had gotten up and was moving towards the front porch. Against my advice my client went out and started towards the doe which continued to come his way. My client was about 3 feet from the doe and put out his hand at which time the doe came right up to him. I immediately started taking pictures. I could not believe what I was seeing....

My clients were amazed at what just happened and felt it was a SIGN..... They purchased the property

MURPHY NC - GIRLS CAN NOW TO GO TO THIER PROM!!!!!

Bonnie DuPree: Real Estate Agent in Murphy, NC

The Princess Closet was founded by the Business Women Of Cherokee County North Carolina www.bwocc.com , which I am Vice President. It's a project that our organization operates and it offers formal wear to girls in middle school and high school so they can attend their PROM, HOMECOMING OR WINTER FORMAL dances.

The Princess Closet is located in a local business The Computer Workshop. They have designated a large office that's private so the girls can try on the gowns. It's feminine decor makes the girls feel more at ease and comfortable.

It's a wonderful feeling to see these girls get so excited about going to these events and to hear their stories when they come back. I had one father who started to cry when he saw his daughter came out to show him the gown that she choose. He thanked me and said that he just could not afford to buy his daughter a gown and if it wasn't for The Princess Closet his daughter would miss out on her PROM and all the memories.

We charge a $30 fee and when the gown is returned they get $15 back. We have arranged with a local cleaner that will dry clean any type of gown for $15.

In these tough times every community needs to have a Princess Closet.....
