When was the last time you camped in the forest and gazed up through the sentinels, the trees, at the starry sky above?

Here is a photo I took last week while on an assignment for a Land Buyer concerned with light pollution. " Hundreds of millions of lights are poorly designed. They send light up, down, and all around instead of where the light should be directed (toward the ground)." Termed 'light pollution', all those lights wash out the night sky ruining the beauty of the cosmos for all.
Fortunately, many in the Greater Asheville, NC area consider our night skies to be a natural resource and have chosen to utilize energy-efficient fluorescent and /or solar powered outdoor lighting. What distinguishes well-designed outdoor lighting from poorly-designed lighting? Here is a PDF file that details the answers. http://aslc-nm.org/LCLightingCode.pdf

Creston Community Info: Nestled in the peaceful, secluded Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina is a private, 1,110 acre, environmentally sensitive community that awaits you. Encircled by pristine hardwood forests that are home to a rich diversity of native flora and fauna, our environmentally sensitive homesites and conservation easements provide peace, quietude, and beauty with minimum impact to the natural splendor our residents cherish.
The Creston Community believes that quality of life and natural splendor go hand-in-hand. We share an ethic of preserving the natural heritage of the mountains. Our vision for Creston Community was inspired by shared ideals of conservation, responsibility, and environmental sensitivity. For this reason, Creston Community has partnered with the Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina to establish conservation easements that ensure that the natural heritage our residents cherish and enjoy is forever protected.
As a member of the Creston Community, you can live comfortably in two worlds. Creston's mountain homesites provide solitude and privacy. Conservation easements ensure your spectacular mountain views, pristine woodlands, rushing streams and waterfalls are forever protected. Of Creston's 1110 acres, 550 acres are shared community space, with amenities that include hiking trails that wind through hardwood forests adjoining Pisgah National Forest. Creston Park and Community Center provide an ideal space for socializing with other Creston Community members.
The beauty of living in the Creston Community is that you won't need to give up urban amenities: the cultural meccas of Asheville, NC and Black Mountain, NC are within a short drive. The roads within Creston Mountain Community have been carefully designed to minimize traffic; you will find no thoroughfares, only less traveled roads ending in cul-de-sacs.

Real Estate: Homesites priced from $120,000 to $550,000.
To view available North Carolina Lakefront Properties, visit http://www.nclakefront.com.
The Cabins at Creston: Select a site nestled in a forested setting surrounded by the conservation easement. Choose your favorite cabin from a selection of architecturally designed styles and build a cabin.
Creston Cottage Sites: The Cottage Neighborhood sites are nestled on private ridges within Creston and enjoy beautiful pastoral views with dramatic backdrops.
Creston Traditional Sites: Situated throughout Creston, these sites are 2 to 4 acres offering increased privacy and long range views.
Creston Homestead Sites: These outstanding 4 1/2 to 8 acre parcels are ideally suited for the privacy lover seeking to create a family compound or a special retreat.
Covenants/Design Guidelines: Aimed to create visual harmony between all homesites and the natural surroundings. Home designs are inspired by Craftsman, Bungalow, Post and Beam, Log, and New England Shingle styles. Creston is governed by thoughtful and thorough protective covenants and design guidelines to preserve mountain views, natural splendor, and visual harmony.
Location: Situated just south Interstate 40 in Black Mountain off Highway 9. Bat Cave, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are all within 30 minutes; Asheville is within 15 minutes.
A major consideration in mountaintop living is easy access on and off the mountain. At Creston, all home sites will be only a few minutes from the entrance. Just eight miles from the Creston gate is the town of Black Mountain. First settled in the 1780's, the community was originally known as Grey Eagle. The name was changed in the 1800s to note the lofty mountain range just five miles to the north.
In addition to life's usual necessities, the historic downtown has a variety of shops and galleries featuring local artists, antique stores, cafes for lunch, restaurants for dinner, a museum, Performing Arts Center, public library and a wonderful, old-fashioned hardware store.
Area Attractions: Asheville offers a thriving arts community along with major cultural events and venues. Downtown Asheville offers popular independent restaurants, art galleries, and a bustling business district. The Biltmore House is a national tourist attraction. Black Mountain is known for its folk arts and crafts and quaint village atmosphere. Chimney Rock Park and scenic Lake Lure are also nearby and offer excellent views of the Hickory Nut Gorge.
Amenities: The features and amenities at Creston Mountain Community provide residents with opportunities to socialize, entertain, or spend quality time with loved ones in spectacular surroundings.
Creston Park at the roundabout is a natural gathering place. Situated at 2400 feet, the park beckons passers by to stop and enjoy the scenery. The timber frame shelter will accommodate a good size group with seating around a fire pit to warm you on cool days. Bring a book, binoculars and enjoy the views.
Creston Mountain Community Center offers residents a magnificent spaceto socialize and relax. Situated at 3100 feet with majestic long range views, the Community Center is complete with a cozy library nook, stone fireplace, and open floorplan.
Recreation: Aside from hiking and enjoying nature, this area of western North Carolina is widely known for its outdoor sports and recreation including whitewater rafting, mountain biking, fishing, boating, and golfing.
Golf Nearby: Easy access to two championship golf courses.
Nature Trails: Over 5 miles of marked trails within the community lead to Allison Falls and many creeks. Trails are adjacent to Pisgah National Forest/Catawba Falls for additional hiking.
