Plastic Bottles are Banned in North Carolina.
Really? That actually might be a good thing but, no, not quite. Plastic bottles are however, banned from landfills in the state.
What’s being banned? All rigid plastic containers. This includes any bottles with a neck smaller than the container itself.
The goal of the ban is to keep our 288 million pounds per year of soda containers, milk jugs and detergent bottles out of the landfills and into recycle centers. Another goal? The creation of jobs. We already have companies that recycle plastics such as Envision Plastics & Plastic Revolutions here in Reidsville.
Clear Path Recycling is building another facility in Fayetteville to recycle more than 280 million pounds annually, or about 5 billion bottles. When completed, the operation will have a capacity of 280 million pounds making it the largest recycling operation in North America.
Recycled plastic bottles become many things including new bottles, plastic shopping bags, carpet, fabrics and clothing. Right now, China buys up to 1/2 of the plastic bottles the US recycles.
So, are you going to have to worry about the plastic bottle police? No, state inspectors will be mostly watching landfills and trash haulers.
Also banned are oil filters and wooden pallets, both in demand by recyclers. A lot of items are already banned from North Carolina landfills such as aluminum cans which have been banned since the 1990’s.
What's happening in your state? Did you know that it takes 17 million barrels of oil per year to make all the plastic water bottles used in the U.S. alone. That's enough oil to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year.
How can you stop using plastic bottles? Don't forget, April 22nd is Earth Day!

Rockingham County is "Reinventing" itself with the Horse Park of the South. After attending a county council meeting yesterday I was pleased to hear Tom Robinson the county manager speak so positively about the Horse Park. Tom asked how the county was going to address the problem that most municipalities have in today's market place. How are they going to replace the manufacturing jobs, or the jobs from the once thriving tobacco farming and processing business. Tom stated that Rockingham county needed to "Reinvent themselves" in order to bring prosperity back to the area. So here is the site plan for their reinvention:

Of course most of the commissioners were asking questions about revenues and tax bases. It has been a long hard road to get here and be at the point of breaking ground but it is going to be very much worth it. As you can see it is not going to be a small project and it will be top of the line.
Of course the fact that I have several farms available for sale and other "pocket listings" of farms or just land for all the equestrian buyers already looking has a little to do with my driving interest and participation.

Horse Park raising Property Values already in North Carolina! The aerial view of the future site for new The Horse Park Of The South shows the size of the future equestrian center. The county has 155 acres for the site to include 120 acres for the Horse Park itself. The front 35 acres of the center will be for commercial development.
There will be one very large indoor show arena, another covered schooling/show ring, 400 permanent stalls with the capabilities to add another 300 for large events. Of course not to mention all the shops, equine art stores, tack shops, administrative offices, banquet facilities and all maintenance facilities.
Now the best part is that I have a number of small and large farms and other properties in the area. Of those some of the "pocket listings" are now changing their prices upward. I have seen a parcel of land sell for $3000 an acre (30 acre parcel) and another across the street (same owner) go up to over $7,500 an acre. I have a 30 acre farm, an 89 acre equestrian estate, and a smaller property with just about two acres. Now I have two farms I am getting ready to list one is 155 acres and 126 acres. I do have two "pocket listings" that are a 50 acre farm and another is 46 acres of farm land with two spring fed ponds on it.
So if you are working with any equestrian clients that are looking in the area I would pay a handsome referral. I also know the area very well since I have showed almost all the equestrian properties and all suitable land tracts with my other buyers. Now some have chosen their properties others are waiting to sell another equestrian property somewhere else. So for horse properties near the newest premier equestrian center on the east coast just give me a call or drop me a line.

Some of you might remember an earlier blog last year about the Horse Park of the South. This is going to be one of the premier equestrian centers in the Southeast. If you can imagine 150 acres of everything equestrian; 6 indoor riding rings, 4 barns with 400 stalls and room for more, two of the rings are indoor arenas, and administration building, dining facilities, and anything else you could think of. Reidsville, North Carolina is about to become the center of the southeast for equestrian events.
I am going to be chronologically taking pictures of the progress so that I can share with you how we are progressing. I went up and took some shots today since they are close to breaking ground so I wanted to shoot the land untouched. The water tower is going to be the marker for the southern most point of the park.

Now shooting from north of the water tower out toward the acreage for the Horse Park.

Now this is an old access road that will probably be used once they start.

So now we have a beginning for the story. I will update you as we progress this will do exciting things to the property values (most certainly the horse farms of which I have three listed) soon.
