Good Luck to Ken Jordan and his crew!
The following was sent to all the Hickory Nut Gorge Chamber members.
"Dear fellow business owner: As you know, the real estate industry is in the midst of a perfect storm with low sales activity, high energy costs, and significant other economic concerns.
Since 2001 it has been our pleasure to help buyers and sellers realize their dreams in the mountains of North Carolina. Now, on the advice of our CPA, we will be closing our ERA LakesEdge Realty office. I expect that the real estate market will rebound as it always has, and at that point we will likely explore the options of reviving the business.
In the meantime, I want to mention that even though our office may be closed, our Lake Guys “brand” and the associated graphic with red canoes and paddlers as well as LakesEdge Realty are trademarked, and should you see someone attempting to use them please remind them that it is illegal to do so, or contact me and I will follow up.
Thank you for your trust and your confidence over the past 7½ years. Speaking for my agents and myself, it has been a pleasure working with you. We wish nothing but the best for your future.
Sincerely, Ken Jordan"
Ken Jordan and his talented crew of real estate agents have always been some of the best people to work with in the Lake Lure area. There professionalism and great service will be missed.
Thanks again
Ken Williams

HOT NIGHTS & COOL RIDES!!
Aug 15 - 16thst, 2008
Walk along Main Street downtown Aug. 16, and for blocks on both sides of the road, you’ll see cars lined up, gutsy and gleaming, from sassy hot rods to sedate classics. At the Hot Nights & Cool Rides Car Show, the cars are the stars.
The 17th annual show, sponsored by the Forest City Merchants Association, will be noon to 10 p.m. with food and live music by Night Moves from Morganton.
It’s one of the largest car shows in the Southeast, organizers say. About 450 vehicles were involved last year. Cash prizes and trophies are given in dozens of categories.
A new kickoff event will be 5:30-10 p.m. Aug. 15 at Bennett Classics Antique Car Museum at 241 Vance St. The kickoff will feature barbecue and live music by Rocky Yelton and the Hired Hands, and the museum will be open for visitors.
At the car show, which has free admission, a shuttle will take visitors all day to the Rutherford County Farm Museum and Bennett’s car museum, both with free admission that day.
The show, the largest single-day event in Rutherford County, draws about 8,000 people, more than the town’s population of 7,500, says Danielle Withrow, town planner and downtown development director. “When the sun goes down, it is wall-to-wall cars and people,” she says.
Parking lots off Main Street are reserved for car clubs. The Thunderbird club alone uses 40 spaces.
The show’s scale is not surprising for such a car town as Forest City. “We are known and have been known since World War II as Little Detroit,” Withrow says. After the war, some Forest City veterans bought used cars in Detroit, brought them home for detailing then sold them in town, in Detroit and the Northeast, she says. Today, many businesses in town are car-oriented, including shops for repair, restoration and detailing and dealerships for new and used cars.
“We are very proud of that Little Detroit signature,” Withrow says.
Car show registration, which costs $20, can be done on the day of the event and online at www.kossmotorsports.com.

Officials are reassuring residents located downstream from Lake Lure's water treatment plant that, despite a reduction in water flow, the water quality if still good. Due to the severe drought in the Lake Lure area, the water level is down by three feet and continues to lose approximately 1 1/4" per day. Because of this, the water flow downstream was restricted from 9.7 million gallons per day to 9 million per day to help support the wildlife in the lake as well as continue functions at the water treatment plant. The reduction is still well within state guidelines and the treatment plant is operating within the state's Special Order of Consent (SOC). A recent inspection of the plant confirmed that there were no violations of the SOC. While Lake Lure residents aren't currently under mandatory water restrictions, they are asked to conserve their water usage so that there will be no need to implement them.
