This winter is predicted to be a cold and snowy one. Good news to all the local Ski Slopes and skiers. Me? I prefer ice Skating. Mostly on a sunny 32 degree day absent of wind. What can I say? I am a wuss! At least that's what my grandson says.
They have been making snow at Appalachian Ski Mountain, Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain for a couple of weeks. We have actually had three snow storms this year too.
Things are actually beginning to pop around here. Phone is ringing and rates are dropping. Our home finance thru our company, Weichert Realtors, Weber Hodge Group is actually offering as low as 4.5% rates.
Unheard of. And I got an email yesterday which says Fannie Mae is soon to follow. Did I say buyers market?
We have several contracts right now and a few other buyers in the middle of their search. So yes, i have to say life in the Boone NC mountains is good.
Come see us.

I just love the beauty of these beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Having lived here fourteen years I have driven or walked most of these counties in northwestern NC. The sublime beauty of the high country is almost impossible to clearly convey. There are moments you experience on top of ridge where you're suddenly struck by how magnificent is this place on Earth! It can be a moment of weather with wispy clouds wending their way as the wind whispers in the river valley. It stops me in my tracks this exquisite beauty. It can be something as simple as awakening to the fresh forest fragrance or as humbling as a mountaintop moment under the garland of diamonds we have for a night sky. I've never known anything as sublime as these mountains. Come look with me and we'll find perfection in nature for you. If you're in the Blowing Rock area and want a great half day moderate hike with a big pay off at the end, the Glen Burney
trail is a great choice. Having lived in Blowing Rock for a few years, I knew about the trail but had never made the hike until recently. Depending on what kind of shape you're in, the trail is moderate to a little more than moderate. For me, hiking 3 weeks after having a baby, the trail was a bit much on the way back up, but I made it! The trail starts out fairly level, but the last third of it you're definitely hiking straight down towards the falls. The trail is 1.2 miles down to the Glen Burney Falls and then another .4 miles to the Glen Marie Falls. You end up descending about 800 feet below the town of Blowing Rock. There are several great places to have a picnic lunch and sit for a while to break up the trip.
The view really is breathtaking at the bottom but the thing that I like about this trail is that it's interesting the whole way not just at the end. There's a lot of history in this ancient trail that was used by the Indians as a hunting trail and then later for turn of the century loggers. The town of Blowing Rock restored the trail in 1989 making it the only remaining portion preserved in usable condition. The hike takes around 2 hours round trip and is definitely a worthwhile trek.
If you're hungry after the trip, you're in luck because you're only a stones throw away from some great Blowing Rock restaurants. Check out Sonny's Grill if you're in the mood for a great hot dog or hamburger. You won't feel under dressed in your scrubby hiking clothes.
In peak season there is never any park
ing at the trail head but it is just as easy to park close by downtown. For directions click here.
As far as what's happening in the Boone and Blowing Rock real estate markets, we've had a great summer and early fall. Much of the market has held up surprisingly well, but slower of course than in years past. The under 300K range for homes is still quite strong, and there's a ton of inventory, making it a great time to buy. In the past month or so, prices have started to soften. I'm hopeful now that the election is behind us, the current issues with the credit market will become the focus again, and the economy will make a turn-around. Let's all think positive!

Monday Morning Moments
Sky Meditation

Serenity. Focus. An internal sense of calm. This moment is about meditation. Sheathed in flowing orange fabric suspended from the trees, individual meditation sites weave down the hillside. The sheer netting provides just enough separation from the surroundings to promote focus while still maintaining a strong connection to nature, whether that nature is a caterpillar on a nearby twig or the distant views down the valley.
This is just one of the great moments planned for Sky Carolina, a new mountain enclave that continues the tradition of mountain gathering places where we reconnect with nature, friends, family and ourselves. Sky Carolina is being crafted three miles east of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Sky Carolina will feature the state-of-the-art Tim Wilkison Signature Tennis Facility as well as many other amenities that will both stimulate your imagination and revitalize your soul.
Look for another Sky Moment every Monday during the upcoming weeks.
