With the temperature in the 70s and a a pretty sky, it was a perfect day for the 2011 Duck Jazz Festival. The wondeful sounds of jazz and the aroma of succulent local food permeated the air in Duck. The all day festival continues to get better each year. If you couldn't make it out this year, put next year's festival on your calendar.

Duck NC Town Hall Groundbreaking
Duck NC Town Hall Groundbreaking took place yesterday at 3pm. With the town officials working in crowded conditions at their current site in the Soundfront Shops location, this event has been anxiously awaited.
Our owners and visitors will see the construction on the Duck NC Town Hall take place in the coming months and seasons with an expected completion date next fall. For all who love the character and charm of Duck, don't worry.
The 2 new structures are to resemble old fashioned livesaving stations. The official street address for Duck Town Hall will be 1200 Duck Road, but you will easily find the new location at the town park.
If you have not visited the Duck NC town park yet, you are missing out on a treat. In addition to an amphitheater and boardwalk with pier, there is a great playground spread over 11 acres. All of this is nestled among the trees on the west side of Duck Road to the sound.
Come visit Duck. It offers the best in resort living and vacationing. Enjoy the tranquility of the Outer Banks live style. Walk through the village to shops and restaurants filled with treats and all things beautiful.

Lesson on the road to Duck
Some times we have the opportunity to learn something in the most unexpected circumstances. Here's my lesson on the road to Duck.
The road at the south end of Duck is undergoing some major construction work. This stretch is now gravel - dusty and bumpy. Traffic now slows to a crawl going through the construction zone. If you've been to Duck or Corolla on the Outer Banks, you know this road is the only road for travel in this area.
Before Sunday school this past weekend we had a big discussion about the inconvenience and the snail pace causing traffic backups. Then Paul Keller told his story about living and driving on a farm. Don't you know to listen when you get the opportunity to hear sensible, common sense wisdom!
Instead of driving at 5 MPH and hitting every tiny bump and rut, drive at the speed limit or slightly under. The ride will actually be smoother. I tried it at the 25 MPH speed limit, and it really works!
Now that doesn't mean we should be reckless and drive faster than we should. It means try this at a practical speed and amaze yourself with a smoother ride.
I hope my lesson on the road to Duck will make your ride smoother. No construction nearby? Perhaps this is your excuse to come to the Outer Banks and Duck this fall. The weather here is perfect.

Sunday Visitors at Duck Church on the Outer Banks.
I must say even here at the beginning of fall we have a large number of Sunday visitors at Duck Church on the Outer Banks. The members love these visitors.
No, we don't embarass our vistors by asking them to stand, but we do ask them to raise their hand. We are always amazed at the response.
Just think, these folks drive some distance to spend a few precious days on the beach. They've saved and rearranged schedules. They want to relax and excape from their hectic lives if just for a short time. Yet they come to church.
Our Sunday visitors at Duck Church on the Outer Banks make a silent statement of a deep abiding faith. No matter where they go, they give back to God what is already His. They give their time.
Have a safe drive home, come and visit us again, and may God bless you on your lifelong journey.
