What do History, High Tech & Green Technologies have in Common?
The King's Daughters Inn of course!
Yesterday I had the opportunity to tour downtown Durham and hear about all the new things coming to Durham and why the Chamber wants you to call Durham home! It was a fabulous tour - More about that later!
Halfway through our trip, we stopped at The King's Daughters Inn for a cup of coffee and scones. I was delighted to see what was in store for us!
Whether you're a history buff, a state of the art business traveler, or just visiting, you'll love The King's Daughters Inn. It is located in the historic Trinity Park neighborhood in the heart of Downtown Durham. You'll find it just across the street from Duke University.
The King's Daughters of Durham built this stunning home to care for their elderly women in the 1920's. Funds to build the home were donated by the Duke family. It was fully operational until 2006 when it closed. It has been restored and reborn as a grand 17,000 sq. ft. - 17 room luxury inn. The current owners have done a beautiful job preserving the historic elements of the inn. However, being environmentally conscious they have implemented some of the most current green technologies available today. I might also add they have done a beautiful job infusing modern flair with historic decor. To follow in Durham's footsteps and make the inn more environmentally conscious, they've incorporated a 10,000 gallon cistern, a rain garden, a gray water system, fully integrated management system and more.
If you're visiting Durham, you can reserve a room at the Inn regardless of gender. According to their brochure, rooms start at $158 per night. Certainly a great bargain! The inn is also available for weddings, corporate retreats, rehearsal dinners, family reunions, or business meetings. The staff is inviting and extremely accommodating.
And, if you're wondering what to do on your visit, the inn is in easy walking distance to Brightleaf, Downtown Durham,DPAC (Durham Performing Arts Center), the Ninth Street Shopping District, and close to some of the best restaurants in the Triangle area!
Any guesses why the call the inn The "King's" Daughters?
It is wonderful to see that The King's Daughters Inn has followed Durham's lead of being sustainable. I did snap a couple of photos to share with you. After I left, I realized I didn't get a shot of the front of the inn. However, below are a few photos I think you're find interesting. Please be certain to visit the inn website for additional information.
Elegant & Modern Restored Rooms
Historically Preserved Staircase
Beautiful & Unique Art Work on the Walls - Depicting a Time of Years Past are also a must see. Ask about the purple walls with The King's Daughters artwork depicted on it. I did take photos to share but, they won't upload here. Be sure to visit Durham, The King's Daughters Inn. If you're relocating to the area and would like more information on homes, be sure to give me a call.
Enjoy your stay and be sure to share your experience!

This year is the 20th Anniversary of the Durham Bulls Movie and low and behold Kevin Costner decided to grace the Triangle on July 4th in remembrance. His visit brings back a lot of memories and a few reasons why you should try to catch a game at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park(D-BAP) if you're in town. I moved to the Triangle just about the time Bull Durham was being released and the team was still playing in the old athletic park.
Times have changed and the Durham Bulls are still a minor league Baseball team for the Tampa Bay Rays but their digs have changed. The Durham Bulls play baseball in a beautiful stadium in downtown Durham called the Durham Bulls Athletic Park that opened in 1995. The stadium is fabulous and seats up to 10,000!
Another favorite pastime at Durham Bulls games is the infamous snorting bull. It's not the same bull used in Bull Durham but the new bull sure knows how to snort and keep a crowd entertained.
Here's the schedule for the 2008 Season. I hope you and your families will be able to make it out to a fun-filled game soon!
