On the waters of the sound overlooking the marsh grasses sits a jewel of a neighborhood, Royall Oaks in Emerald Isle North Carolina. This quaint and quiet subdivision is home to mostly full time residents of this island in the outer banks chain. Even though Royall Oaks is situated on the sound side of the island it is within walking distance of the beach which is about a half a mile to the south.
Royall Oaks and her sister neighborhood to the south on the ocean, Dolphin Ridge, are members of the same Home Owners Association which grants beach access to all members. There is a private beach walkway and private beach parking for all association members in the Dolphin Ridge subdivision.
Royall Oaks gets it's name of one of the developers of this subdivision in Emerald Isle NC, Mr. Lewis Royall Holding, known to most as Snow. Mr. Holding was the leader and CEO of First Citizens Bank of North Carolina for many years until his passing in August of 2009 at the age of 81. So don't let anyone tell you that the name of the subdivision is misspelled with 2 l's in Royall it is not. For many of the home owners in this friendly subdivision on the water it was the first time they understood why the name was spelled with 2 l's, but now it is a bit of community trivia.
Royall Oaks is a gated subdivision with 45 lots 12 of these sitting directly on the sound and marshes. The 12 sound front lots and homes share walkways from their properties to a pier and gazebo. Each of the sound front lots pays an additional $12 per month in Home Owner Association dues for the care and maintenance of the walkways, pier and gazebo. Dues for all the interior lots runs approximately $40 per month.
The sun sets over the ocean in the winter months but late spring through early fall the residents of Royall Oaks Emerald Isle North Carolina enjoy fantastic sunsets over the waters of the sound. So much so that residents sometime take them for granted only to appreciate the awesomeness of the beauty when reminded by ratptured guests.
The tennis courts in the neighborhood are the property of the Dolphin Ridge Club, a privately owned beach, pool and tennis club in the sister neighborhood, Dolphin Ridge. For more information on this wonderful private club and the benefits it can add to owners and their visitors check out this article - Dolphin Ridge Club for Emerald Isle beach weddings, Emerald Isle Beach Club. Here's a little slideshow of Royall Oaks and her sister neighborhood on the ocean Dolphin Ridge.
Royall Oaks has a very fun loving group of owners and although most of them live here full time a few of them call Emerald Isle their second home. Full timers and part timers alike partake of the community activities. There is Bunko for the ladies once a month. There is the beach walking group in the mornings. The guys organize golf outings on a weekly basis and if you're looking for fishing you won't have to look far to find a neighbor going angling and looking for company. For those who enjoy kayaking it is easy to launch your boat from the pier and paddle in the sound and around the plentiful islands. You will find gatherings to watch football and other sporting events. Pot luck dinners on the pier at the gazebo are a seasonal favorite. Golf carts filled with goodies and picnic supplies show up along with more than everyone can eat. Children of all ages (2-92) enjoy these gatherings. Especially 4th of July and the golf cart parade.
