I love this time of the year when the weather is still not too cold but winter is coming. I have many things to be grateful for this year and its time to reflect on the year that has just flew by me. We have a tradition at our house that I cook for Thanksgiving and Mom does Christmas dinner. We don't have a very big family, its just the three of us but we carry on just like any other big family would. We have one other family member come for Christmas and that is Joe's sister. We have been invited over the years to join others however, we politely decline to keep our tradition going. Besides we like all the left overs, that is the best part of Thanksgiving. Who doesn't want turkey sandwiches with dressing on top for days... Yum!

Here at Classic GMAC Real Estate in Franklin, NC we are a drop off center for our local Care-Net that helps local families in need of assistance.
We received a brown grocery bag in with the local paper to fill up and bring to Care-Net or to a drop off center to keep the shelves filled for this Holiday season and throughout the year. So, I think this year I will fill the bag to give back to our community and it will help one local family or two.

I hope you all have a Great Thanksgiving and Holiday Season to come.

On the cover of The Franklin Press the county tax assessor announce that Macon County will postpone the county's revaluation of real property until 2013. It is being pushed back because of depressed sales and market instability due to economic rescission. They said they have to give the market time to stabilize and establish where the market is.

If they did proceed with the 2011 tax revaluation land developers and land speculators would probably see a lowering of their tax liability but it would be picked up by the average residential home owner if they did lower the values. They have to come up with the same revenue to meet current budgets. Another reason is it would cause so much chaos and confusion because they don't have enough market data to do it equitably. That is due to not enough sales of all the different types of properties so you have to throw out all the bank sales, trustee sales that makes up about 25% of all sales right now. Then you have family sales and sales that have zero revenue = data no good!
So does this mean NO NEW TAXES? You guessed it, NO! Right above that piece of news is, TAX INCREASE to fund school construction. Macon county property owners to see a 1.5-cent tax increase in 2010. Their reasoning to build now is lower interest rates and construction costs are down.
and quit whining.
Our county's current millage rate now is 26.4 cents per $100. Macon County currently has the third lowest tax rate in the state according to NC Department of Revenue data. This will add $15.00 to the tax bill for $100,000 house.

Our stoneware is handcrafted in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina by Mike and Christy Barber. Every piece is wheel thrown by Mike before being hand carved by Christy. Finally, each piece is finished by spraying multiple layers of glaze before being fired to over 2100 degrees.

Are carvings and glazes take their inspiration from nature, where we spend our free time hiking and fly fishing. Our pottery is meant to be used and enjoyed. Every piece we make is oven, dishwasher, and microwave safe. We hope you will enoy using our pottery as much as we enjoy making it.
All stoneware pottery is oven, dishwasher, and microwave safe. When baking it's best to place pottery in a cold oven and let them warm together.
