Cape Fear National, the Tim Cate-designed course at Brunswick Forest
in Leland, was recently named among the “Top 10 Best Courses You Can
Play in NC – 2011” by Golfweek Magazine.
This is the second year the course has been open. In its inaugural year it was named “Top 10 Best New Courses 2010” by GOLF Magazine, “Best New Courses of 2010” by LINKS Magazine and “Best New Courses List 2010” by Golfweek Magazine.
Out of the top 10 in Golfweek’s 2011 list, Cape Fear National was the only course named from the Wilmington area. Six courses were named from the Pinehurst area, putting Cape Fear National in some lofty company.
“We are honored to receive this latest award from Golfweek,” said Jim Hahn, general manager at Cape Fear National. “Considering all of the quality golf courses located in the state of North Carolina, this award speaks volumes.”
Cape Fear National’s commitment isn’t just to world-class golf. From Thursday through Sunday, the course will offer a special rate of $35 for tee times after 11 a.m. to free up funds for golfers to give to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Folds of Honor is a nonprofit foundation that provides postsecondary scholarships for the children or spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving the United States.
The campaign will culminate with a Patriot Day Golf Tournament on Labor Day. A portion of the proceeds from the tournament’s entry fee, as well as the other funds collected, will be given to Folds of Honor at the tournament’s close.
The Patriot Day Golf Tournament is a national campaign supported by the PGA of America and the United States Golf Association. The tournament at Cape Fear National is open to the public. Entry fees are $45 and the tournament begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
For registration information, contact Cape Fear National at (910) 338-3283, or visit www.capefearnational.com.

LELAND, NC, August 30, 2011 --- In the wake of Hurricane Irene that last week moved along the East Coast, a gyrating stock market and a national economy still struggling to find its footing, the Wilmington, NC area community of Brunswick Forest continues to set real estate sales records.
Home and home site sales through the first eight months of 2011 number 117, eclipsing the 101 unit sales market set in the first eight months of 2010. This represents the fastest sales pace since doors opened not quite five years ago in the community.
All told more than $28.5 million in homes and home sites have sold through August of 2011. Brunswick Forest Realty officials say at that pace the community is on track for more than 165 homes and home sites totaling more than $40 million for the 2011 year.
Home sites at Brunswick Forest begin at $75,000; homes begin in the mid-$200,000s.
Thankfully Hurricane Irene spared the pristine Wilmington, NC area getaways of Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Wrightsville Beach and Oak Island Beach, said Jerry Helms, Brunswick Forest director of sales and marketing, making the area all the more attractive to water-soaked residents of other coastal areas seeking Labor Day getaways this coming weekend.
Brunswick Forest is less than 20 minutes away from many of the popular beach areas and ten minutes away from Historic Downtown Wilmington, NC.
“It’s been one challenge after another this year,” said Helms, “but if there is a constant, it’s the growing popularity of Brunswick Forest,” said Helms.
“In the end it comes down to lifestyle and value,” he said. “More and more people are coming to the Wilmington, NC area, and more and more people are recognizing what we have to offer in our community. That’s good news for Brunswick Forest, and good news for the Wilmington area.”
Nearly 800 families have purchased at Brunswick Forest, which Helms says makes it the fastest growing community in the Coastal South.
While Wilmington, NC area real estate sales remain relatively flat, Brunswick Forest officials point to factors that include developer resources, location, local roots and a growing community whose neighbors keep telling their friends about Brunswick Forest as important reasons for what by any measure appears to be a significant real estate success story during difficult times.
Brunswick Forest is a residential community situated on 4,500 acres of woodlands, creeks, forests and natural areas set 10 minutes from Historic Downtown Wilmington, NC. Residents choose from a wide range of prices and lifestyle options, from low-maintenance luxury town homes to home sites and spacious custom homes. Secluded neighborhoods, each with its own distinctive character, are found throughout the community. Residents also enjoy a wide variety of amenities in place today, including an 18-hole Championship golf course at Cape Fear National®, an 18,000 square foot Fitness and Wellness Center, a Community Commons, a River Club, parks and natural areas and more than 100 miles of paths and trails. New Hanover Regional Medical Center has opened a 40,000 square foot medical office building at The Villages at Brunswick Forest, a major retail, professional and entertainment center at the community's entrance.
In addition, construction has begun on Lowes Foods and CVS/pharmacy stores in The Villages at Brunswick Forest, two anchor tenants representing approximately 55,000 sq. ft. of additional retail offerings at the Wilmington, NC community town center. Developers are anticipating the opening of both stores sometime around the middle of 2012.
