From CommonGood E-News

Volunteer at the Animal Shelter
We have a full time staff at the shelter but nothing pleases them more than to see the animals getting extra attention. Help with socialization, dog walking, training, laundry, bathing or cleaning of the kennels. We also have a garden to maintain and other administrative duties for those that want to assist in other ways.

VOLUNTEER ROLES:

Pet Photographers - Have a digital camera? Like to take photos of animals? Then join the photo team and commit to at least one day a week to take digital pictures of pets. A picture is worth a thousand words and this case those words are "Adopt me!"

Cat Cuddlers - Cat Cuddlers are responsible for nurturing, socializing and giving attention and affection to cats and kittens during their stay at the Animal Center, making them more comfortable on the adoption floor.

Fido Fitness - Fido Fitness provide the dogs with their daily exercise. The Center has a yard that the walkers can use, or you can walk around the block. Tired dogs are content dogs; content, calm dogs are more adoptable.

Dog Cuddlers - Dog Cuddlers provide socialization and affection to animals to young to walk, or dogs and puppies that are shy or fearful. Dogs and puppies that are confident and happy to be with people are more adoptable.

Off-site Event Assistants - These volunteers travel to off-site events to raise awareness about the shelter by handing out literature, answering questions about the shelter, helping with setup and takedown, transporting animals from the shelter to site, and handling animals at the site.

Marketing - Enjoy the challenges of marketing? Our Animal Center is always looking for ways to promote our shelter so that more people come out and adopt. This team also works to promote spaying and neutering animals, and help raise funds.

Clean Team - Do you like doing laundry? Love to organize or tidy? Training needed to use our commercial dishwasher and washers/dryers.

Please call the Shelter at 475-5620 for more details and schedule an orientation! *Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian. Contact Corrie Smith, Events, Marketing & Volunteer Guru - OB SPCA

Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (N.E.S.T.)

For the past couple of years volunteers have managed to raise over $100 for N.E.S.T. by sending in granola bar wrappers and Frito-Lay potato chip bags.  Many of the N.E.S.T. volunteers have worked hard to collect wrappers and bags from around the beach. So congrats to everyone and keep that "trash" coming!

Here is what can be donated:
Any granola, power, nut, or Clif bar with a foil lining.  No candy or cookie wrappers.
Any Frito-lay bag.  No other chip companies.

For those who wish to participate:
Once you've saved up a stash of wrappers and bags, send them in to karen Clark or
Christian Legner at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island P.O. Box 967 Manteo, North Carolina 27954.  Please make sure wrappers and chip bags are separated from each other.  Thanks!

Arts and Crafts on the Outer Banks in Manteo

If you've been to the Outer Banks you know there is much more to see and do than simply hang out on the beach. While our beaches and warm breezes are enough to get you to the Outer Banks, you may just want to do more. If you love fine arts and crafts, then you need to head to Manteo.Outer Banks beaches

Manteo, the county seat of Dare County, is often missed by our visitors and tourists. Perhaps because it is located on nearby Roanoke Island connected to the Outer Banks by Bonner Bridge.

If you've been to see our outdoor drama, The Lost Colony (fabulous by the way) or our North Carolina Aquarium, then you've been to Roanoke Island.

The commerce portion if Manteo is on the waterfront. By all means be sure to visit. Many fine shops for all ages. Great places to eat. There are two arts and craft shops here.

As you enjoy the many art and craftstreasures you will find in Manteo, here are two additional places you may wnat on your list.

Have fun exploring Manteo and art and crafts on the Outer Banks in Manteo.

Want Stimulus? ~Cedar Bay Comes Alive!!~ Mayberry on the Outer Banks

Steve Blaisdell ,FOC: Real Estate Agent in Nags Head, NC

Historic Manteo is by far the coolest little Coastal Town in Northeastern North Carolina. There is an abundance of shopping, coffee shops, book shops, entertainment , watersports , fishing or just plain walking tours of Historic down town. When you come for a visit do not forget to check out the Lost Colony!

Baby boomers are popping up as new residents all over town. Some retiring early and some good and ready to settle in to coastal living at it's finest but using their new homes for weekend getaways until the time comes. Some are pleasantly surprised when they find that their new neighbor has a soft shell crab operation right in the back yard . Others are attracted to the abundance of the Arts here in Manteo - the county seat of the Dare county Arts council. Others love the history , some are looking for pirates treasure!

It almost feels like Mayberry, in fact if you close your eyes and concentrate you can hear Opie whistling that may-berry tune. There is little doubt that Manteo will be THE hottest real estate micro market on the Outer Banks soon. With everything at walking or biking distance it will become hard to leave this little sanctuary once you get settled in.

This is the perfect place to settle down and Cedar Bayhas been the overwhelming best seller in the town of Manteo in the last year. We have outsold our competition by 300 to 400% the number of units sold. One local condo/ single family development has sold one to our 4 for the year of 2008. Our competition is tight and we have noticed the other developers hanging around our neighborhood snooping! LOL- just kidding...actually we have noticed they have followed our lead on good pricing and we wish them a great 2009 selling season. One of our competitors has recently hired one of the most powerful sales managers in the industry! I'm sure that costs a pretty penny and will likely cost you as a buyer as well! Be careful and make sure you shop the whole town to see what suits your needs and your budget.

There are several reasons that Cedar Bay is so attractive - one is price and another is the tranquil location. We are located due west of the Historic Waterfront less than a mile . Our site hugs the 100 acre County Parcel soon to become a new sound front park! We are less than one minute driving from the US Fish and Wildlife boat ramp and we have four available marsh front westerly sound view lots available-not to mention the style and quality of construction. Make an appointment to visit our site and ask for a free Magnolia Grille or Front Porch Cafe gift card.

If you are interested in Cedar Bay or anything Outer Banks give me a call . If you are a Realtor in DC area , Northern Va or anywhere in the northeast this is a no brain-er for your best clients - send me an outbound referral today - I will start sending checks $$ your way soon!

Opportunity is at an ALL TIME HIGH!!- turn off the boob tube and come out to the beach and visit me!!

Cheers to a great 2009!
