The lovely community of Brasstown, North Carolina is a beautiful historic area and the home of the internationally acclaimed John C. Campbell Folk School. Folks come together in this haven, tucked in the Folk School Enamelingbeautiful western North Carolina mountains, to have joyful and enlivening experiences full of learning and laughter. In fact, the Folk School's motto, "I sing behind the plow," reflects our desire to find happiness, expression, and art in our daily lives. The Folk School was added to National Register of Historic Places, in 1983. Here are a few of the things you'll find at the Folk School exemplifying our ongoing celebration of life and creativity. Programs & Classes
You'll find deep satisfaction in the development of creative skills in a supportive, hands-on learning environment at the Folk School. We offer adults more than 830 week long and weekend classes year-round in traditional and contemporary craft, art, music, dance, cooking, gardening, nature studies, photography and writing. Folk School Spinning
Craft Shop
Our Craft Shop is a prime destination for anyone interested in quality craft. Featuring the juried work of over 300 craftspeople, it offers everything from decorative jewelry to functional fireplace poker sets. The Craft Shop at the Folk School is also proud to be the home of the world-renowned Brasstown Carvers.

Concert Series
The Folk School's free Friday night concert series features some of the finest regional and national acts performing old-time, bluegrass, folk, gospel and Celtic music.

Community Dances
Community dances are usually held every other Saturday Folk School Quiltingevening and are relished by local residents and visitors who enjoy contra and square dancing to live music.

History Center
Featuring an array of craft items and photographs - including an extensive collection by famed photographer Doris Ulmann - the History Center guides you through the school's fascinating background and provides an excellent overview of 20th-century Appalachia.

Nature Trails
Numerous walking trails meander the 300-acre campus, including the Rivercane Walk, a creekside trail with art honoring the strong Cherokee heritage of the Appalachian area.

Mark your calendars... October 3-4 Folk School Fall Festival from 10 am - 5 pm
Come join in and celebrate the rich heritage of the Appalachians at the Fall Festival, featuring approximately 200 crafts people. There will be continuous live music, dancing, demonstrations, plenty of great food and so much more. A day for the whole family filled with fun!
