The Sarpy County Board has given approval for a new juvenile probation program that will help juveniles in the system. Approval was given for application for a grant through the Nebraska Crime Commission to pay for the program. Through the use of a nutritionist and a personal trainer, youths will be taught about healthy eating choices as many of the youths suffer from poor nutrition, some also suffer from eating disorders ranging from obesity to anorexia or bulimia.
Coupled with the nutrition, the juveniles will have access to a trainer who will give them information on getting fit and staying fit. Space will be rented in the Bellevue Lied Center where the juveniles can get the necessary exercise to get in shape and learn about appropriate exercise.
It is hoped that with change, the probationers will develop confidence and result in better choices for themselves.

Offutt Air Force Base is being considered for two Air Force divisions: Air Force Nuclear and Cyber Warfare Operations. Both divisions combined would create approximately 1300 jobs. A total of six bases, including Offutt, made the final list. A decision is expected in July.
Offutt is considered to be a front runner since Strategic Air Command once ran all of the nuclear operations. StratCom is also responsible for the Defense Department's Cyberwar Division.

Papillion is a great place to call home and raise a family. Overland Hills has 5 different phases with over 750 homes. Here is a market recap for Overland Hills in Papillion, Nebraska for 2008. As you know 2008 wasn't the best year for real estate, however, there were 37 homes sold in 2008 or up 8% from 34 in 2007. Currently, as of February 24, 2009, there are 7 active listings and 2 homes sold since January 1, 2009. The number of homes for sale in the Papillion area is currently 165 (down from 220 in March 08) with 22 sales as of February 24, 2009. Some good news, the reduction in supply of homes along with increase spring demand for homes should stabilize home prices for 2009.

Sarpy County has a smelly problem. The landfill near Springfield emits gases that smell like rotten eggs, an overpowering smell for residents in the vicinity. The smell is due to the release of hydrogen sulfide gas. The problem is not new. Last year the county installed 13 flares to burn off the gases. Now, an additional 25 flares will be installed by May 1. The gases will be capped with a synthetic liner with the hopes of directing the gases toward the flares.
The County Board is also looking into proposals from companies that would contain the gas and convert it into useable energy. In the meantime, the county residents hope that the extra flares will do the trick so they can enjoy breathing in clean air.
