Ground breaking for the new Omaha Royals stadium in Sarpy County last Wednesday was reminiscent of the Field of Dreams, except it was the real thing. There was a large crowd of enthusiastic baseball fans surrounded by cornfields. As the crowd awaited the ceremony, they were treated to the usual ballgame fare of hotdogs, peanuts, and cold drinks.
While Sarpy County is one of the fastest growing counties in Nebraska, it still retains the feel of small town and this stadium will only add to that cohesive, friendly atmosphere.
The Omaha Royals team was warmly welcomed and the crowd was happy for a glimpse, if not an autograph, of hall of famers, George Brett and Bob Gibson.

For a small city Papillion just keeps getting better. According to Money magazine Papillion is the third, best small town to live in. The rating is up from being in sixth place in 2007. Of note was the fact that the city had good scores for affordable housing and economic performance. Also noted were the benefits of making improvements in the downtown area and the addition of the Sumtur Amphitheater.

In view of the declining value of homes, Business Week sought out the most affordable suburb in each state. Business Week looked for suburbs within 25 miles of cities with populations of 5,000 to 60,000 people, family incomes of $51,000 to $120,000, and below average crime rates. However, consideration was also given to commuting distance, quality of education, economic stability (job growth potential and unemployment rates), and the affordability of living in the city.
The most affordable suburb in Nebraska is Papillion according to Business Week. Papillion is a city of 19,059 citizens with a median income of $81,652 and the median cost of a home is $188,000. The unemployment rate is 3 percent and almost half of the residents are married and have children.
