Chinese educators visit Pawtucket, RI

For those of you who wonder how the Chinese educate their children through their school system, this will be an very interesting read.

Today at Pawtucket Times, there is an article titled:

Chinese educators visit Pawtucket, RI

Having been educated in both sides, I certainly understand the article so well.

Just to pick a few points to surprise a few of you.

  • Many schools are actually boarding school (junir and senior middle schools, even some elementary schools, pretty rare though). 6 days of school. One day weekend. Students will visit their parents weekly or every other week.
  • School time is from 5:30am to 9:00pm for many senior high schools!
  • Most schools require school uniforms.
  • English is a require course for schools from grade 3 in most areas. No pass in English, no school.

Can spammers be a little smarter?

Of millions of spammers, this one is not easy to spot out. It only takes me 1 second to make a decision that this is a spammer. I wonder why they could not be a little smarter to disguise themselves. The email was received from my activerain email.

Pictures from St.Patrick's day Parade in Pawtucket, RI Saturday March 7, 2009

In Rhode Island, this month is St.Patrick's Month. A host of activities were scheduled for this month. The St.Patrick's day Parade in Pawtucket was scheduled in March 7, 2009. It is a great event, especially for kids. If you missed the parade, you can attend the following parades:

March 14, in Newport, RI

March 15, West Warwick,RI

March 20, Providence, RI

More details could be found here.

Here are some pictures that my wife took yesterday at Pawtucket (I was taping). The could not be better. The turn ups were unblievable. We actually walked with the parade from the beginning until the end. There were people every where along the route.

My wife said you are free to use any of the pictures but please kind let me know that you are using it (them).

Recession Proof? GTech revenue surges 27.9%

Today's Providence Business News said that GTech revenue surges 27.9%.

For those of you who do not know. GTech manages many lotteries in many states as well as in many other countries. GTech was acquired by an Italian company in 2006.

Do not ask me for any data but historical data used show that in a down economy, usually Gaming, Entertament and Alchol industries will boom.

It is said that Hollywood actually benefited a lot from the 1930 depression. I studied some historical data. That seems quite true.

If you need to buy any businesses like the above, I would be more than happy to offer my advice. :-) I cannot help you open a casino though. Too much politics involved.

P.S. If you are really doing international business, you will know that all PhotoVoltaics (PV) business is booming pretty big. PV business mainly refers to solar energy batteries, panels and busiensses related to them. This is especially true in Japan and China. This energy revolution might change the world energy market very soon. Stay tuned.

closing schools? Happened and will happen soon

I got a booklet from a local elementary school. Looks the city will close some schools soon.

In the meantime, Warwick already closed 3 schools and will close more.

Pawtucket is actually considering either a school or a fire station.

While most hate negative news, this is real for parents with school age children. We have been thinking either sending my daughter to private school which is a $40K bill/year, or move out of the city.

But what will happen to the families who do not want to go to private schools and do not want to move?

That is a real question.

Now the next factor home buyers will consider is to buy into an area that at least their kids can have proper education.

The following scan is from the booklet for Fall 2009's enrollment. It is real and the yellow marking is from me.
