Not too much to report on here in Minocqua so I'll share a hilarious story from yesterday morning regarding the open duck season here in the Northwoods!!!

Hy husband is an avid duck-hunter along with myself when I can force myself out of bed at 3:00 in the morning to sit in a duck boat with a gun still half asleep while the sun comes up.

Yesterday morning I got up in my blind-as-a-bat delirium (w/o my contacts or glasses). I usually feed our two overly-eager dogs in the morning and check to make sure they haven't gotten into any mischief, like taking the used coffee filter and grounds out of the garbage can!! So while looking down by the garbage can I do see something and can't make it out. I got closer and leaned over, still unable to make out the object on the floor and ready to grab whatever it is and throw it back in the can, I thought it looked odd so I had to squat down further, only to find 12 inches from my face a FRESH DUCK HEAD glaring up at me!!! Thank God the dogs weren't interested in it, I could just imagine them waking me up with their 'GIFT for MOM' in bed!!!

I could have killed my husband while at the same time laughing uncontrollably at our Northwoods way of life that only we could lead so well!! Since then he has vowed never to throw away a duck head in the house garbage ever again!!!!

Here in Northern Wisconsin I am with everyone else around the country taking it one day at a time, one showing at a time and one listing at a time. The best advice I can give to fellow realtors in this unpredictable market is to remain true to your values and stay in touch with your sphere including lenders who need us to sell their loans to trustworthy buyers.

Remeber homes in particular are simply a package of building supplies (commodities) that have value and fluctuate based on the prices of those materials, in addition to the land value of course. We need to transition the mind-set of consumers back into the Long-Term Investment of purchasing and owning a home. Focus attentions off of the previous 10+ years when buying a home could be seen as a short-term investment with larger returns and not much effort.

Real estate ownership is a sign of stability and investment into your future and jumping on the train now may not be possible for some but is definetely a good opportunity for many others as we can all agree not one person can predict what will be of home prices and interest rates in 1 year let alone 1 month!
