25th Anniversary Lasershow Spectacular

Current Schedule: Saturdays in May at 9:30 PM

This Atlanta tradition, the longest running lasershow in the world, celebrates its silver anniversary with a digitally remastered show. A new musical score features some all-time favorite tunes and several medleys. The Lasershow is free with your vehicle entry fee to the Park.

Memorial Day Weekend Salute to the Troops

Performing a free concert Sunday night is country music star Lee Greenwood, best known for his hit, "God Bless the U.S.A. National Trails Day

Date: June 7

The Georgia Appalachian Trail Club and American Hiking Society presents National Trails Day at Stone Mountain Park on Saturday, June 7 from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. The event will be held at the Confederate Hall Plaza. Guide-led hikes will be offered all day on trails around the park. There will also be educational exhibits, children's hikes and gear demonstrations. The event is free with your $8 (cash only) vehicle fee to the Park.

Families and church youth groups will enjoy three days of contemporary Christian Music, inspirational speakers, and much more at the Southeast's largest Christian music fest. Highlights include 2008 Dove Award Winners Toby Mac (Artist of the Year) and Casting Crowns (Group of the Year). Other artists will include Jeremy Camp, Shane and Shane, Big Daddy Weave, BarlowGirl, and over 40 more will headline the Atlanta Fest's five stages in the Special Events Meadow. Fantastic Fourth Celebration

Dates: July 3-5

Stone Mountain Park explodes with excitement in this annual Independence Day salute. Each evening begins with the 25th Anniversary Lasershow Spectacular featuring a special intro, and is followed by an amazing fireworks display right in front of the mountain! And on the 4th of July, bursts of light will illuminate the sky as fireworks choreographed to music are shot from BOTH the base AND the top of Stone Mountain. The Lasershow and fireworks are free. Parking permit required for vehicle entry to the park - $10.00 for a one-day permit or $35 for an annual permit.

Chili Cook Off

Date: September 27

Come to the premiere chili event east of Texas only at Stone Mountain Park . The Chili Cook-Off draws more than 300 teams competing for "Best Of", "People's Choice" and "Showmanship" awards in competition categories such as Chili, Brunswick Stew and Cornbread. More than $10,000 in prize money is awarded. Sample the great food and participate in a variety of contests. The event's proceeds support Camp Twin Lakes , a non-profit that offers year-round recreational, therapeutic and educational programs for children facing serious illnesses and other physical, emotional and life challenges.

23rd Annual Tour of Southern Ghosts

The Stone Mountain Highland Games will be held in the meadow at beautiful Stone Mountain for two full days of Scottish fun. "Moonlight & Music" Concert Series

From May to September, at 8:00 p.m., on the fourth Friday of each month, concerts will be held on the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse lawn. Each concert will offer various styles of music including blues, jazz, rock, folk, country and bluegrass, Motown, swing and more!

Tables for six can be rented for $60 for Gwinnett residents and $80 for non-residents by contacting the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse offices at 770-822-5450. Concert goers can bring a picnic or dine at one of the restaurants on the Square.

The Aurora Theatre presents "Crazy for You!" at Lawrenceville's fifth annual Prelude to the Fourth celebration to be held on the Historic Courthouse lawn. Families and friends can rent tables and order catering packages from local restaurants, as they enjoy the music on the eve of Independence Day. This event helps kick off Gwinnett County's famous " Gwinnett Glows" event held each year on July 4th.

More than 70,000 Gwinnett residents and friends celebrated the Fourth of July at the Gwinnett Glows celebration last year at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville. This years event will be moved to the Historic Courthouse Square in Downtown Lawrenceville. The event features arts and crafts, free children's activities, and a live band. Children can enjoy clowns, face painting, a fire juggler, trackless train rides, rock climbing wall, pony rides, and live appearances from some of their favorite characters.

Gwinnet Reading Festival

Saturday, October 18
The Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL) will present the second annual Gwinnett Reading Festival on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. The event is free to the public and will take place from 10 am to 4 pm.

The Gwinnett Reading Festival will be an event for all ages to promote the Gwinnett County Public Library, books and a love of reading. The event will feature approximately thirty local, regional and national authors. Authors will read, discuss, and autograph their works, including fiction, non-fiction, adult and children's titles. Free arts and crafts projects, sponsored by the Hudgen's Center for the Arts, and a FREE book for every child!

The Festival will also feature writer's workshops, author panel discussions, panel discussions, events for children, a coffee shop, food, a bookstore provided by Eagle Eye Books, and an on-site Library Festival branch. The Gwinnett County Public Library operates 14 branches throughout Gwinnett County.

Saturday, October 18
The annual fall fest brings live music, entertainment, and special attractions to downtown focusing on all areas of the arts for all ages.&nbsp; The event complements the annual Gwinnett County Library. Gwinnett Reading Festival, also held in Lawrenceville, and offers literary themed activities for the October festivities. Last year's event presented a back-to-back, two-band, live concert "on the lawn" for four hours of both contemporary classical and some great bluesy, southern rock. Come stroll Lawrenceville's historic downtown for the fun-filled Festival of Leaves and all the surprises in-store for 2008!

(Every Friday and Saturday from May- October)
Not unlike the cities of Savannah and Charleston, Lawrenceville too has a rich and sometimes spooky history. Highlighting the most vivid stories of the strange and supernatural a costumed guide will lead ghost tour groups every Friday and Saturday night on a 90-minute adventure. Our macabre tales will send a chill down your spine.
  • Learn about the Flying Corpses of Lawrenceville.
  • Take a poke around the Old Jail, preserved from the 1800's.
  • Feel the hair on your neck stand when told the account of the heiress who was buried alive.
You will be amazed and a little bit frightened. Private tours may be scheduled and Storytellers may be booked for private functions. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate to the weather as this is a walking tour.

Lighting of the Tree

(Thanksgiving Night- Thursday, November 27)
The Christmas tree lighting starts the holiday season for Lawrenceville and Gwinnett County. The Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation, the City of Lawrenceville, and the Lawrenceville Tourism and Trade Association work to bring hundreds of lights and thousands of smiling faces together for a night of entertainment and cheer. This event includes the arrival of Santa Claus, live entertainment, carriage rides, tours of the beautifully decorated historic courthouse, and of course, the giant tree presentation that makes children's eyes light up more than the tree lights and ornaments themselves.

Ring in 2009 on the downtown Lawrenceville square on Tuesday, Dec. 31. The festivities begin at 7 p.m. and end with a bang at midnight showing a dazzling fireworks display. The annual, family friendly celebration will feature 11 various bands with music ranging from teen, Motown, swing, country rock and jazz, all for free! The evening will also include children friendly activities such as magic, giant slides, rock climbing wall, musical theatre reviews and more!!! Santa visits, children's crafts, and carriage rides! Santa visits and children's crafts will be at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse from 4:30-8:00pm, December5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21. Carriage rides available around Historic Lawrenceville from 5:00-8:30pm, December 6, 13, and 20. (Small fee charged for photos with Santa and carriage rides). Also enjoy a free self-guided tour of the beautifully decorated rooms at Gwinnett Historic Courthouse.
