Lockport Lightning/Thunder U10 Sosscer Update

Sunday was a busy day for the Lockport Lightning and Thunder U10 girls and boys soccer teams.

Let's start with the Lockport Lightning U10 girls.

The Lightning advanced another game in the win column with as strong outing against the Niagara U10 girls. Lockport posted a 5-0 win. My daughter picked up 3 points this week with three assists. The win moves the Lockport Lightning U10 Girls team to a 3-1-0 record. The girls are improving with each week. As I stated in past posts this team is very young with 8, 9, and 10 year olds making up the 10 year old team. Good job girls!

On a side note for the girls game. The referee was by far the best I've seen in the two years since my kids began playing soccer at the travel level. Yes, these teams are travelingteams and represent the best of the best for each community for their ages. Sometimes what is lost in excitement of the game is that the kids are just 10 years old and are still learning the game. The referee this week did call the game according to the rules, but if a player was called on for something he took the time to walk over and explain what was wrong to the player. He understood his job and did it well and I congratulated and thanked him after the game for being not only a referee, but a teacher for the kids during the game.

The Lockport Thunder U10 boys team played Sunday afternoon in a very exciting fast paced game. The Locport boys beat the U10 boys Clarence (A Team) 4-2.

Weekly Home Maintenance Tip from All Pro Home Inspection (716) 772-2548 www.allprohomeinspection.com

Task: Cleaning the refrigerator coils

When was the last time you looked behind your refrigerator? Well, it only takes 10 minutes to do so resulting in saving energy, money and good preventive maintenance for this appliance. Do you know your refrigerator is one of the biggest users of electricity in your home? Let's clean the coils to keep it running efficiently.

Overview

Cleaning your refrigerator coils. The coils on the back or bottom of your refrigerator give off heat. Dust or debris keeps them from cooling, making your refrigerator work harder and in some cases causing condensation. We all know that condensation is not a good thing and can cause some funny things to begin growing.

Tools and equipment

  • Vacuum or coil brush
  • Flashlight

Steps

  • Unplug the refrigerator
  • Determine whether the coils are behind or under your refrigerator by pulling the refrigerator out or removing the kick plate under the door and peeking under the refrigerator
  • Vacuum the coils to remove dust balls, pet hair or anything else that inhibits air movement. A coil brush also works well

While you're at it:

  • Check the door seals for air leaks or for things growing
  • Clean door seals with soapy warm water
  • Empty and clean the defrost drain pan
  • Remove mildew from the ice and water dispenser openings
  • Check the water dispenser for proper flow rate - normally 8-10 ounces of water in 10 seconds
  • Remove and shelves and crispers, and wash them and all interior surfaces with a warm, damp rag. Don't use any chemical cleaning solutions.

Tips:

  • Don't sweat the small stuff - recent studies suggest that normal dust is not enough to affect the efficiency or electrical consumption of your refrigerator
  • Don't store things on top of your refrigerator. They restrict airflow to your refrigerator coils, especially if they fall down the back
  • A full refrigerator or freezer uses less electricity than an empty one
  • If your refrigerator is more than 20 years old, you can save money by replacing it, even if it works perfectly. New Energy Star units consume much less energy compared to older units

Until the next time...a few minutes of maintenance work will save your hundreds of dollars and keep your property in tip-top shape.

Lockport Lightning/Thunder U10 Soccer Update

Good evening everyone,

It's Sunday and those of you following - it's time to give an update on the Lockport Thunder U10 boys soccer team.

Today the boys played very well. The Lockport Thunder U10 boys beat the Clarence Soccer Club U10 boys 9 - 0. My son played goal the second half and made some great saves to secure the shutout. The boys are getting better with each passing week. Coach Dave and Coach John have each player understanding their rolls and how to play the game as a team and the boys are seeing the results of thier work. With today's win the Lockport boys improved to 2-0-1 on the season and are a half game out of first.

My daughters team - Lockport Lightning U10 girls had a bye this week and will return next week, rested and weel practiced.

Until next week -
