Opting Out

10-17-09
Amy Berman

I decided that I was getting too many emails so I took the time to opt out of all of the 'junk' emails I get on a regular basis. I opted out of sephora, neiman marcus, nordstrom, and several others a couple of days ago. I have never had the time to look through them all but now that I have opted out I feel lonely. I know this sounds strange but I used to get at least 20 emails each morning (some of course from friends) and now...I miss all the new messages. It is so odd, I remember when checking my voice mail was so exciting to see who called and how many messages I got, and then of course emails became so big. I find myself checking emails (work and personal) facebook, voice mail and twitter (sometimes). Anyway, if you ever decide to unsubscribe to all of your emails from various companies at one time you too will notice was a drastic difference it makes.

Take care,

PC vs Mac

I have been a PC user since...well always. When my computer started making funny noises and shutting down on it's own I decided to research computers. After some research I bought a Mac. I have to say I am so happy with it. Not only is it easy to use but the customer service is fantastic. The reason I post this is because the photo and editing features are amazing. Being in the real estate industry and a Co-Founder of a real estate website it is so important to be able to edit and post photos and videos. I know that realtors take so many photos/videos of properties and I have to say the mac is just that much better and easier. The bonus feature is that I also have windows. I bought their program parallels so I can use windows whenever I want to. Next time you pass by a Mac store try one out. I am not in anyway affiliated with Mac just a huge fan.

American Idol...the results

I have to say that I have not watched American Idol this season until tonight. I think the best part of it was all of the amazing talent...Kiss, Queen, Black Eyed Peas....Well if you saw it you know, the music was great. Anyway, I wondered what all the hype was with this show and I won't know b/c I didn't watch it from the beginning but watching someone's dream come true tonight was great. I was in such a great mood after watching it. In these times it is so nice to see a feel good story! If only the news didn't follow because now I am listening to violence in the world. I wonder what it would be like if the news had to divide its time equally between the violence and the heart felt stories. I know that I am just as interested in hearing all of the news!

life without my cell phone

It is amazing how much I get done on my cell phone. I am realizing this more and more now that I don't have one. Unfortunately I left my phone on top of my car one night when I was rushing out (for x-rays for my child who is okay now) and watched if fall off my roof on the highway...that was one week ago. My days are so hectic I have not had time to purchase another one. Now, I know I can order it over the Internet and get the same one (I love my old one and it was only 6 months old) but then a friend of mine was telling me about SARs (the radiation) each phone has and I looked it up on www.cnet.comand found that my old phone has a strong SARs so I am trying to do my due diligence in finding one that has a low rating. Regardless of all of this, I miss my phone. Aside from not being able to communicate for work and personal reasons, I didn't realize how much I rely on it emotionally. I feel more secure with my phone. When I drive I think to myself, what if I get a flat tire...I can't call anyone and all of the other drivers will assume that I have a phone with me so who is going to stop to help. I don't have time to look until this weekend. In some regards it is freeing, I listen to music and really unwind during my commute which is all good, but on the other hand I feel more secure having it and more productive. Amazing, I never had a security blanket as a child and now as an adult I need my phone! Have a great week and I recommend driving your commute without using your phone...you may be surprised how relaxed you are when you get home. I think once I get mine back I will try not to use it on my commute home.

the amount of time I spend on the computer...

04-25-09

I was talking to a friend the other day about how much time I am on the computer on "social networking". It used to be checking my emails, but now I check personal and work emails, twitter, facebook, wordpress, activerain, and a few other sites. I love to write my thoughts and read how my friends and colleagues are doing. It is amazing how often I am on the computer. I used to think about how many hours a year I spent at red-lights or waiting in line to checkout at the store was wasting my time. Now of course I have my cell phone to make calls, text, etc... but really how much time is spent on the computer. I know the value of it, but why not just use one site? Why do I check all of these sites (like most of friends as well). How many hours per year am I toggling between social networking sites? How many hours per year are you?
