Go to the Ft. Worth Zoo on Sunday and get a free ticket.

I just heard the great news. In honor of their recognition as the #5 Best Zoo in the country, the FT. Worth Zoo is having a special for their customers. This Sunday, 22nd, if you buy an adult ticket you get a free child's ticket. Adult tickets are $12.00 each and children's tickets are $8.00. So you save $8.00 each time you buy an adult ticket. Lots to see, buy, and eat. It may be a little chilly this weekend so take a jacket or coat.

Another one bit the dust in my area.

Today has been gloomy. Clouds are still out and it is chilly. Yesterday as I was driving down Hampton Rd in Desoto, I noticed the Starbucks is no longer in business. It was a real shock to me. But coffee drinkers need not worry. McDonald's is just up the street. They are now serving hot lattes and other coffee drinks. Or you can drive to the Starbucks on I35 and Pleasant Run. A couple of miles from this one. I think it is still there. This economy is a bummer.

First time homebuyer tax credit-full explanation

Provided by dfwRealtors.com e.News

FIRST-TIME HOMEBUYER TAX CREDIT
Most of the mechanics of the credit will be the same as under the 2008 rules: the credit will be claimed on a tax return to reduce the purchaser's income tax liability. The one major difference is the fact that repayment of the credit will no longer be required. If any credit amount remains unused, then the unused amount will be refunded as a check to the purchaser. Below are the principle pieces of the tax credit.

Amount of Credit - Maximum credit amount increased to $8000.

Eligible Property - Any single family residence that will be used as a principal residence.

Refundable - Reduces (or can eliminate) income tax liability for the year of purchase. Any unused amount of tax credit refunded to purchaser.

Income Limit - Full amount of credit available for individuals with adjusted gross income of no more than $75,000 ($150,000 on a joint return). Phases out above those caps ($95,000 and $170,000).

First-time Homebuyer Only - Purchaser (and purchaser's spouse) may not have owned a principal residence in 3 years previous to purchase.

Revenue Bond Financing - Purchasers who utilize revenue bond financing can also use this credit.

Repayment - No repayment for purchases on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009.

Recapture - If home is sold within three years of purchase, entire amount of credit is recaptured on sale. Applies only to homes purchased in 2009.

Termination - December 1, 2009

Effective Date - All revisions are effective as of January 1, 2009

Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful meets Tues. 7 pm.

We officially have a Board for Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful. The coordinator-Connie Hearne, thought I should be the President. I passed on it since I already volunteer for The Community Outreach committe of our Realtor Association-DFW. I did not want to be overcommitted. So I am the Secretary of the Board. Easy job, right? This upcoming meeting, Feb 17 we will be discussing more details of the April 4th event- The Texas Trash off event. We will be supplying materials, vests, gloves and more needed supplies for this event. At noon lunch will be provided. Once the event is over the volunteers will receive a tshirt for helping out. We are looking forward to seeing all the volunteers and getting rid of all the trash in Glenn Heights' creeks, streets and backyards. Hope to see you there as well. Contact to volunteer is 972-223-1690 x203.

Keep Texas Beautiful-what did I learn in class?

Hi AR,

It was two days of information overload. This is a really good program to implement in your cities if there is not one there already. The trainers are so nice and knowledgeable. The other volunteers were also nice and provided experience. Some of us were wet behind the ears while others have had their programs in place for 10 years. I never knew how important this program is. If you do not know what it is about, I will try to explain without boring you. First of all, as the name states, it is a beautifying program. There are special events throughout the year such as The Great Cleanup, Texas Waterway Cleanup, Earth Day, Texas Recycles Day, Arbor Day and many more. It is about bringing your community together to lend a helping hand in picking up trash, recycling, planting trees, etc. To get your own program in place takes a Board, Coordinator, Secretary, Treasurer, someone who isn't afraid to ask for money-fundraising, volunteers of all ages. There is even a Youth Program. I have a follow up meeting with my Coordinator tomorrow morning. We will be informing our volunteers of the information we collected in those 2 days. This was a great learning experience. You should try it.
