Family Dining South of the Border Style - San Antonio Grill in Helena AL
The San Antonio Grill is one of my family's favorite places to go in Helena for an inexpensive but fun and delicious dining experience. Judging from the full tables, a lot of others think so too. Even on Friday evenings when the restaurant is really busy, the staff is always smiling and the service is excellent.
Specializing in Mexican dishes and my favorite, Margaritas, the menu also includes items for adults and children that prefer something other than Mexican cuisine, such as American burgers and salads.
I love to come to the San Antonio Grill when I am really hungry because chips and yummy salsa are on the table moments after being seated. Pictured to the left is how I like to start my meal. That is my favorite Margarita that they serve...top shelf, on the rocks with no salt. This is the medium, but they also have a smaller size and a larger version too.
One of the dishes I like to order here that I don't find at some of the other Mexican restaurants is the Chorizo Quesadilla. Served with lettuce, guacamole and pico de gallo, it's cheesy goodness fills me up and could easily feed two people.
Located in the middle of Helena's main shopping district on Highway 17, the San Antonio Grill offers plenty of free parking and is easy to find. If you have not already discovered the San Antonio Grill, you need to stop by and see why it is such a popular place. Take out is available too.

Donut Joe's in Pelham AL.....Offering Fresh Coffee & Donuts To Go!
Donut Joe's has just opened in Pelham AL and is already becoming a favorite spot for local residents.......the parking lot is always full of cars in the morning and when I stopped by I had to park next door and walk over. Isn't that a great problem to have?
Owned and operated by Richard and Suzette Byrd, Donut Joe's offers fresh donuts and pastries that are prepared right at the shop. What could be better than a fresh warm donut? That would be a fresh warm donut with a cup of hot coffee.....or maybe you prefer cold coffee. They are planning on adding specialty coffees and often add some surprise selections to the donut case........today it was Peach Fritters. Those things were huge!
I've tried several of their donuts......a big fan of chocolate, I almost always want some variety of chocolate, but there is one with maple icing and nuts that is to die for!
You can get "Joe To Go"....96 ounces of coffee that will stay hot for hours.

NO.....IT'S NOT ME!!!!
Today I drove to Hartford, Alabama with my mom and my brother to take care of some family business. While we were there we visited Eloise Hause, who is my grandmother's double first cousin. Two brothers (Hardwicks) married two sisters (Corbitts) and both families had a bunch of children. Eloise was the oldest and she is 107......and looking forward to celebrating another birthday December 29th! She and one of my grandmother's sisters, Nina, are the only cousins of this generation that are still living. Nina is 95, my grandmother lived to 93, and Eloise's sister, Annie Laurie lived into her 90s as well.
Eloise is hard of hearing, but other than that she is in excellent shape. She lives in her own home and until a few years ago she was still driving and lived alone. Now she has someone that lives at the house with her in case she needs any help. She says her doctor can't find anything wrong with her and that her body is perfect! I guess it must be!
She is still full of mischief and lots of fun....just like my grandmother was!
My friend Jana lost her battle with pancreatic cancer yesterday. She has suffered for months with her illness and is finally at peace with her Lord. Please remember Jana's family in your prayers.......she leaves behind a son and sister, and many happy memories for those of us that were fortunate to be her friends. I will miss and remember you always, my sweet friend.
