Do you know why a Hardship Letter is so important? If you are dealing with a Short Sale, Short Pay, or maybe a Mortgage Loan Modification it's important to know how to write a Hardship Letter. A lot of times it comes down to: "How much money will the lender(s) get"?

On your Hardship Letter, lenders want to see Dollar Amounts and Dates. Your letter my be very specific and HANDWRITTEN-it evokes emotion. Make sure to paint a picture. Make sure the lender sees the you/seller as a person-NOT A FILE! In addition, you must always have a signature(s) at the bottom of the letter. Following is a great Hardship Outline to use.

Introduction

Introduce yourself (Borrower (s) and current default status

Reason

Why can't you continue to make payments or become current in monies owed?

1. Medical-crisis, bill, etc..
2. Job loss of either borrower or spouse who works to help with expenses of household
3. Business change, loss, etc...
4. Marital Status-Divorce, separation, etc...
5. Other

Story

Provide one, two, or more paragraphs explaining your story. Explain how/when and the effect the mortgage payments issue, adjustable mortgage, etc.. has had on yourself and your family. Be clear and concise with some expression of emotion concerning your current dilemma.

Make a statement of what you're requesting to the Lender of Record

Closing Statement

Thank you for your time and consideration

Sign and Date

Signature of Borrower(s)/Seller(s) only
