    The Story Behind Sin City

    * SHORT HISTORY: LAND OF OPPORTUNITIES DISCOVERED!!!... On December 1829 Rafael Rivera became the first known non-Indian to set foot in the oasis-like Las Vegas Valley. The valley is named Las Vegas, Spanish for "The Meadows."

    • 1829: Spanish explorers name springs in the desert Las Vegas — Spanish for “the meadows.”
    • 1855: Mormons make first attempt to settle Las Vegas.
    • Oct. 31, 1864: Nevada is admitted as the 36th state in the Union.

    May 15, 1905: Clark auctions off 600 plots of land, establishing Las Vegas as a town.
    July 1, 1909: Clark County is created.

    For the next 100 years Las Vegas, the largest city in Clark County, is going to grow in a unparallel speed - through its incredible ups and downs where some of the U.S.’s most monumental moments occurred.

    Las Vegas virtually was immune to economic hardships of the "Great Depression"in the 1930s. Jobs and money were prevalent because of Union Pacific Railroad development, legal gambling and construction of Hoover Dam 34 miles away in Black Canyon on the Colorado River.

    • Nov. 1944: Liberace makes his Las Vegas debut.

    • 1955: Liberace becomes the city's highest-paid entertainer, earning $50,000 a week.

    • April 15, 1979: Liberace opens The Liberace Museum, which displays his collection of rare pianos, cars and, of course, his bejeweled wardrobes.

    • Feb. 4, 1987: Liberace dies.

    • 1960: Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford) performs for first time.

    • May 14, 1998: Frank Sinatra dies of a heart attack. The next night the lights on the Strip are dimmed in his honor.

    • Dec. 2-12, 1976: Elvis performs his final engagement at the Hilton

    * GAMBLING: Nevada was the first state to legalize casino-style gambling
    • Illegal but accepted gambling flourished until 1931.
    • Legalized gambling returned to Nevada during the Great Depression.
    • 1938: California authorities crack down on illegal gambling, causing many gamblers to move to Las Vegas.
    • March 30, 1959: Nevada creates the Gaming Commission.
    * HOTEL / CASINO INDUSTRY:

    Siegal By far the most celebrated of the early resorts was the Flamingo Hotel, built by mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, a member of the Meyer Lansky crime organization.

    • Dec. 26, 1946: Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel opens the Flamingo Hotel.
    • June 20, 1947: Six months later, Siegel was murdered by an unknown gunman who fired a shotgun blast as Siegel sat in the living room of the Beverly Hills, Calif., home of his girlfriend, Virginia Hill.

    Las Vegas, already have seen luxury-home prices fall by 15%-20% [since 2006]… But opportunity continues to present itself in the Las Vegas real estate market! Home prices continue to fall and properties owned by banks and lenders accounted for more than half of the homes sold in April.

    Best Place to buy "Yes, Las Vegas has been hit hard by incoming investors, who watched their home values disappear and then left those homes empty. Las Vegas comes in quite high on the national foreclosure list, almost always within the top three metro areas. But there's an upside--a very strong job market. In 2007, Las Vegas experienced a 12 percent increase in population, partly driven by retirees looking for Sunbelt states to move to. Coupled with low prices, we could see inventories reduced here, which would also stabilize prices."

    In spite of all economical predictions still about 5000 people a month move to Las Vegas valley. Their major questions, as new comers in Vegas, are places at affordable price and living condition: great neighborhoods with good schools, parks entertainment and yes, some far from the Strip...

    Kick the Oil habit!!! GREEN CAR, the answer to... Gasoline crises?

    E85-Stations

    As - E85 Fuel - hits the markets across United States Cities there are more questions than answers... So is is the E85 fuel the answer to America's (and the world's) addiction to oil?

    US does not even produce half as much ethanol as universal E85 would require. We make about 5 billion gallons of ethanol, but use 140 billion gallons of gas... What that tells you?

    Are we close?... Can we breathe easily thinking that our troubles are over? (at least to a near distance in time). E85 ethanol fuel may make a small contribution now, but it is a dead end some smart minds tell us.

    Rio Hotel Casino

    The 14th Alternative Fuels & Vehicles National Conference + Expo 2008 is a leading fuel and vehicle neutral conference and exposition. The conference was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 11-14, at the Rio All-Suite Hotel , the premier international conference representing all alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles where internationally renowned experts.

    "Don't wait for the perfect alternative fuel. There ain't one," said Sam Swearngin, fleet manager for the city of Kansas City, Mo., as he addressed fellow fleet managers from across the nation.

    Today there are other options: hydrogen fuel cells, compressed natural gas, methane captured from garbage dumps.

    Las Vegas led the nation with almost 63% of its vehicles using alternative fuels, including 450 vehicles using B20 biodiesel (20%), in addition to using less-polluting compressed natural gas, electric hybrids and zero-polluting hydrogen vehicles.

     E85 Fuel - is readily available here in Southern Nevada. But can your car use it? Newer cars can use both E85 and regular gas but your car must be equipped for the gas or you should not use it. At one gas station, here in Vegas,  the owner replaced premium gas with E85.

    Check the label inside your Fuel Door and or check your VIN number. Write down the 8th Character in your VIN number and call your local Dealer. With that 8th character they will be able to tell you if your vehicle is compatible with E85 Fuel.
