The search for the perfect pumpkin will be at The Great Pumpkin Festival on October 24 - 26, 2008. Visit the Desert Botanical Garden’s very own pumpkin patch, where each day children aged 12 and under can choose their own free pumpkin. Children also can enjoy face painting, the Amazing Bale Maze, balloon artistry, pumpkin decorating and carving demonstrations.

BARKtoberfest is a party in the park October 11, 2008 for adults and children to celebrate the relationships we share with our most loyal of friends—DOGS!
BARKtoberfest is sponsored by the Friends for Life Animal Sanctuary, a nonprofit, no kill animal shelter. The Town of Gilbert, one of the sponsors for the annual BARKtoberfest will kick off at 9:00 am and go to 3:00 pm and will be held at the Gilbert Civic Center in Gilbert.
Local Gilbert residents, and others from all over the valley are invited for FREE to bring their pooches for a day of fun in the sun.
There will be shopping, live entertainment, dog wash, DOGvinci (where your dog is turned into an artist), dog adoptions, raffle, contests (costume,look-a-like, best trick, etc.), and more will keep both people & pooches entertained. Funds raised from this event aid in saving the lives of homeless dogs and cats in our community.

Last year I attended my first BARKtoberfest and we adopted my little guy, 'Taco' there! He has now been apart of our family a year and we have adapted really well. Outside of his puppy chewing issues, we 
adore him! He has a fun personality and I can't imagine him not with us!
Last year I was in awe at how many different breeds in attendance and some I had no idea that existed! You will see unique breeds for sure!
Feel free to bring a blanket or lawn chair and spend the day dog-watching. Please remember that all dogs must be leashed and aggressive ones should be muzzled. There are bags available to clean up after your dog and a Frisbee or two is always around for a toss.
I recommend getting there early as it still gets very hot by noon in October. Bring plenty of your own water for you and your pet. Feed your dog before attending--it keeps them from eating all the treats that are available, preventing that awful upset tummy he might get later. (And we all know how awful that is to clean up)
The event is held at a the Gilbert Town Center located at 50 E. Civic Center Drive in Gilbert on Saturday, October 11th, 2008 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. See you there!

I just want you to know that I have a huge love affair with Halloween (party queen; check out the Robinson's), it could be that I love CANDY and I don't mean myself, Candi!
I just couldn't help but think of all the foreclosed houses this year from neighborhood to neighborhood and many of my friends and family facing this same difficult situation.
I hope that no one is offended with the cartoon included here in this post, it actually spurred this post to reach out to those that are struggling and heading toward foreclosure. I know personally how difficult this can be and the emotions that it entails.
In no way am I suggesting anything funny about losing your home back to the bank. I just know that anymore if you are one that takes your kids and grandkids through the neighborhood in which you live, most likely this cartoon might be closer to the truth than we all hate to admit.
My heart goes out those that are financially strapped for whatever their circumstances and the means in which they find themselves. I truly understand and I would be happy to help you where I can.

October 11th, Kids can drop a line for free at the Riparian Preserve Lake in Gilbert from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The Arizona Game and Fish Department will be providing fishing gear and bait to the first 100 youths. What a great way to introduce children into the world of fishing!
Take a child fishing! This is a great opportunity to spend the morning fishing with family or to bring a young angler that would enjoy the experience!
Participants will not need an urban fishing license to fish on the Gilbert lake. Only for the event that day. That lake has a maximum depth of 15 feet and features catfish, rainbow trout, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, largemouth bass, tilapia and carp. Fish are regularly stocked at the Preserve. At any age, any level, Youth Fishing Day is a perfect opportunity to catch a fish. The lake is located southeast of Greenfield and Guadalupe roads. This is one of the 20 lakes in Maricopa County involved in the Urban Fishing Progam! See you there!

Gilbert is centrally located in Arizona and was incorporated on July 6, 1920. In 1902, the Arizona Eastern Railway asked for donations of right of way in order to establish a rail line between Phoenix and Florence. A rail siding was established on property owned by William "Bobby" Gilbert. The siding, and the town that sprung up around it, eventually became known as Gilbert. Gilbert was a prime farming community, fueled by the construction of the Roosevelt Dam and the Eastern and Consolidated Canals in 1911. It remained an agriculture town for many years, and was known as the "Hay Capital of the World" until the late 1920s. Gilbert began to take its current shape during the 1970s when the Town Council approved a strip annexation that encompassed 53 square miles of county land. Although the population was only 5,717 in 1970 the Council realized that Gilbert would eventually grow and develop much like the neighboring communities of Tempe, Mesa, and Chandler. In the last two decades, Gilbert has grown at a pace unparalleled by most communities in the United States, increasing in population from 29,122 in 1990 to over 191,000 in 2006.
I moved to Arizona in November of 1974 and have lived in the Gilbert/Mesa area ever since. I built my first home in Gilbert in 1987. I raised my three children in Gilbert and found this a very exciting place for all walks of life. The Gilbert School District was my main motivation to move from Mesa where my parents lived to Gilbert. Our first home was built by a local contractor, ALC Builders. I currently still live in Gilbert, Arizona and find this a fantastic place to raise your family, own your own business and be centrally located to so many wonderful restaurants, shopping malls, parks, and recreational activities. Southeast Regional Library Located on a 127-acre site, the Southeast Regional Library not only offers books, videos, CDs and access to the web, visitors also have spectacular views of the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch
The 110-acre Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is located at 2757 E. Guadalupe Road east of Greenfield Road, next to the Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert, Arizona. At the Riparian Preserve over 200 species of birds can be seen throughout the year. There are 4.5 miles of walking trails, and fishing at the recreation lake at Water Ranch. This unique area was designed to utilize recycled water to create community wetland wildlife sanctuaries for recreation, education, and research. Heritage District An officially recognized and established historic area, the Heritage District marks the original Gilbert town site and is still the historic center of the community. The Heritage District includes one-of-a-kind restaurants, shops and offices.
The Hale Centre Theatre has a legendary heritage as the longest continuously running, privately owned and operated theater company in America. You can find it now in the Heritage District in downtown Gilbert, presenting a variety of theatrical performances.
Gilbert Town Square, an urban village created by Triple Five Arizona Development, features a 14-screen megaplex theater, retail shops and restaurants.
Gilbert Days November marks Gilbert Days, a unique, three-day celebration that marks the paving of Gilbert Road through downtown. Gilbert Days provides fun-filled activities for the entire family including the Gilbert Days 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run, a parade through downtown, and IPRA Rodeo action and carnival that takes places at Gilbert Rodeo Park.
Gilbert Historical Society Museum The town's history has been captured in the Gilbert Historical Society Museum. Located in a building that was once the original Town School at 10 S. Gilbert Road.
Freestone Skate Park From the novice in-line skater to the extreme skateboarder, Gilbert's 22,000 sq. ft. skate park offers features that accommodate all skill levels. The skate park located in Freestone Park offers free, non-supervised skating to visitors.
Freestone Park Gilbert's flagship park truly is a wonderful place to visit and play. Freestone Park features ball fields, sport courts, a train, batting cage concession, playgrounds and picnic ramadas for visitors to enjoy. Located at the park you will also find and amphitheatre, Gilbert's Skate Park and the Freestone Recreation Center.
Crossroads Dog Park This dog park is on the west side of Greenfield Road, south of Warner Road. The dog park hours are 6 a.m.- 10 p.m., seven days per week. 2155 E. Knox Road.
Cosmo Park is located at the northeast corner of Ray Road and the Santan Loop 202 in Gilbert. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The park features a lighted fenced dog park.
