If you are looking for housing while you are at Fort Huachuca for a TDY assignment, you certainly have a few options. You can choose to stay on base at teh VOQ or BOQ which is often full. Another option is of course staying in a hotel, but who wants to live out of a hotel for 3 months? The third option which often goes under the radar is renting in the local area. There are apartments as well as homes in the area that are often available on a month to month basis and will accept your per diem rate which is now $83/day.

As a provider of luxury homes in the area for TDY rental, we feel that although you have options, there really is only one option that makes sense above all the other options. Let me highlight the Pros and Cons of the options you have.

On Base Lodging:

Pros:

• closest to base
• they accept your per diem rate with no extra fees
• convenient location
• No garage or storage

Cons:

• you are on base which makes it difficult to enjoy the city of Sierra Vista's nightlife
• you have that feeling of living in a hotel which isnt very comfortable long term
• no amenities beyond the basics
• can't have parties or gatherings with friends
• you have to pay up front even though it may take you 45-60 days to be reimbursed from DFAS
• Can't cook hommade meals in your own kitchen or have a BBQ

Hotel Lodging:

Pros:

• Daily or weekly maid service depending on location
• No garage or storage for anything

Cons:

• you are living in a hotel which isnt very comfortable long term
• no amenities beyond the basics
• can't have parties or gatherings with friends
• you have to pay up front even though it may take you 45-60 days to be reimbursed from DFAS
• Often charge more than the per diem rate costing you money out of pocket
• Can't cook hommade meals in your own kitchen or have a BBQ unless you find a room with a kitchen
  
• not very private with lots of noise from other hotel guests

Luxury TDY Homes Lodging:

Pros:

• Bi-Weekly Maid Service
• Luxuriously Appointed homes with full entertainment system and TV's in every room
• Comfortable Pillow Top Mattresses
• Most homes have a pool and spa to enjoy during the hot summer months
• Fully Stocked gourmet kitchens for making a homemade meal and cooking for friends
• Wireless Internet
  
• Privacy, quiet and comfortable personal residence
• We charge in arrears unless you are on the advanced system so that you are not out of pocket thousands of dollars waiting for reimbursement
• Private garage to store your cars and any extra items you may have
• Outside BBQ and patio set for having gatherings and parties

Cons:

• Still trying to figure out a negative... I don't think there are any because our homes are all within 5-7 minutes of the main gate.

I think it is quite clear that while you are on TDY, a Luxury TDY homes is the only choice for soldiers looking for Lodging while at Fort Huachuca.
