It’s finally summertime and we all long to some time at the beach or on the lake.
But if you are like me, you continue to find yourself running around without a brake and just not being able to get off the “Marry-Go-Round”.
With demanding Clients and Open House requests every weekend, kids on different schedules and all those Summer get-togethers that the family and friends expect, with family coming over from Europe for entire MONTH, I must say… I’m quite overwhelmed at times.
Knowing myself, I will do-it-all and come out smiling but at what cost?
A lot of us have a tendency to spread ourselves thin and bite their teeth in the process to satisfy everyone else’s demands, and what’s worst, our own too.
In my case it’s the perfect back yard and beautiful spot to relax on the weekends that I just “Must Have”.
My brand new, huge deck looks so cold without the plantings, and white curtains blowing in the wind… My vision is not coming together because, let’s be honest, I HAVE NO TIME to get it done… What’s worst… I don’t have time to enjoy it either.
So, I’m teaching myself to notice and accept those tiny moments of bliss, anywhere I can get them. I’m learning to leave the guilt behind and bless myself with a short walk on the waterfront, or a White Chocolate Raspberry Tart and coffee in the corner café.
That way, when I have to go back and drive that one Client who just can’t stop talking about himself or if I have to show the same home for the 5th time to the couple, who “just don’t know what they should do”…
I can handle it, and I can smile.
Because I DID have some “me time” and now I feel I can do it all again!
So, to every Professional out there, to all those whose eyes are glazed over, because you forgot to go to bed last night, and those who no longer know what day of the week it is…
Remember that YOU need a breather too! So take a moment to slowdown for a minute, and notice the wind’s gentle breeze and the blooming flowers.
It’s summer! Enjoy it, if only one moment at the time!
In one of his posts, Jeremy Fowler said: “You don't live to sell real estate; you sell real estate to live.” That says it all…

The quiet village of Moonstone, located just next to the Majestic St. Louis Moonstone ski resort, offers just that.
About 5 years ago, my family was becoming antsy, they wanted to get out of the city and venture out to the country. The list of "wants" was long, so we started looking for the property that would suit all our needs...
After driving around, studying the locations of local attractions, services like hospitals and schools, we came across the property nestled in the quiet subdivision just minutes from the ski slopes. 5 minutes to be exact...
After stepping out of the car, I fell in love with this one acre piece of land enclosed by beautiful, mature Spruce trees. I envisioned my laundry drying in the sun at the back...
And now, here we are settled in, way past the stressful stages of applying for the building permits, coordinating the building schedule from excavations to the final lot grading.
15 minute drive to Barrie allows me to charge for work each day, coming back home, lets me relax and take in the ever-changing scenery. We love the fresh air, friendly neighbors, open spaces and watching falling stars in the back yard. Friends come here from busy cities, gather around the bonfire, relax on the spacious back deck with kids "going camping" and setting up tents on the spacious lot.
Winter time we host the Ski weekends, with ski slopes steps away, where everyone gathers in the morning for the day filled with snow carving and hot chocolate at the lodge. Then we go back home for a hearty meal and the evening filled with stories of days gone by...
If this is the life you seek, consider Moonstone. Spread out along the Moonstone Rd. and down by the 7th Line of Oro Medonte, this community offers smaller ski chalets, large family homes and newer custom build stately residences.
Ski chalets are surrounded by majestic pines and mixed bush, with properties accessible year round by Municipally-maintained roads.
Moonstone residents enjoy the proximity to three larger cities. Orillia is just 10 minutes away, Midland is 15 minutes and you can get to Barrie in 20 minutes.
School children attend Moonstone School, up to grade 6, with older kids traveling by school bus to little town of Coldwater, to charming country school with wonderful teachers and friendly staff. My younger son will attend his graduation ceremony here, next week...
In Coldwater you will also find IGA grocery store, banks, hardware stores, restaurants and everything else you may need.
So if you love skiing and want to stay close to the city, but prefer the slower pace of the country living... Moonstone should be on your list!

We all enjoyed the beautiful growth of the city of Barrie for quite a few years now. We’ve witnessed the development of new neighborhoods, the steady increase in house values and many of us, homeowners made some good money in this great market.
This year things are a bit different… Real Estate Market in Barrie is slowing down faster than anyone anticipated and this fact is making a lot of people very anxious.
What are the reasons for such negative developments?
When you look back to 1996, when the Barrie Real Estate Market was just starting to rebuild itself after 6 years of steady downward spiral, you will notice that it was possible to purchase a brand new 2000 sq.ft. Bungalow on 50’x 200’ lot in desirable area of the city for $155,000.
At that time similar properties in Mississauga were selling in the $250,000 $300,000 range. With gas prices around $0.48/litre, it was beneficial, wise and easy to live in Barrie and commute to GTA for work.
Fast forward to 2002 or 2004 when home prices in Barrie went up by 9.4% The huge price gap between GTA and Barrie was diminishing fast. The momentum continued for next couple of years, with prices growing steadily by 6+ points per year.
Those who lived here, and commuted to work were happy, the value of their greatest asset was increasing fast.
But developments in the Middle East started to affect our pockets each time we needed to fill up our gas tanks. Slowly prices at the pumps became outrages.
It was no longer beneficial to live in the beautiful Barrie unless you had a job right here. If you traveled to Toronto every day, it was burning a deep hole in your pocket. Sure, there is a GO Train and it offers a great benefit for those who can utilize the service. But regretfully… not everyone could.
So out came the calculators and the spread sheets. Difficult decisions had to be made in many households; For Sale signs sprouted in many neighborhoods in hope to remedy the situation.
Those who must work in the GTA, are moving back closer to work, for one simple reason: High gas prices.
But not every one is leaving, we are excited to look forward to the developments that our Municipal Government has in store for us. The new Molson Park Complex with shopping malls, office buildings, and recreational spaces is the huge step forward for the City. Barrie is working hard to attract outside business to come here.
This little hiccup in our Barrie Real Estate Market will not become the gaping hole some people are afraid of. We will still emerge strong , because Barrie has so much to offer.
We are still one of the best places to live in Ontario! The Gateway to Winter fun on the slopes and Summer time at the beach. What else can you ask for?
