Wildfires in Horry County, South Carolina

First of all, thank you for everyone who has expressed concern and is keeping everyone in our area in their thoughts. The fire is a very frightening problem right now, although I am on the south end of Myrtle Beach about a mile west of the ocean and not in immediate danger but there is really nothing that I can do to help the families who have had to flee to escape the fire. Here is a link to a map of the fire in Horry County. I'm getting some clothes together to donate and tomorrow I'm going to pick up some bottled water to bring to the Red Cross. Anything else?

Our local paper, The Sun News, has a lot of pictures and videos of the fire. We have been hearing from a lot of our clients who are worried about their properties and calling to check on us as well. Looking north you can just see a huge smoke covering. It's scary but the community has really pulled together to help get everyone who has been (and continues to be) affected through it so we will just keep our thoughts with the firefighters, police and everyone else who is fighting the fire as well as everyone who has been evacuated from their homes.

Wiiiiiiiiii!

I went to the doctor yesterday and I gained five pounds! I can attribute this to my recently sporadic schedule. It seems people call to see property out of the blue (and want to see it at that moment) and I am either eating on the run or my schedule just isn't conducive to getting to the gym. By the time I get home, I have chores and just haven't made time to work out lately.

So last night I went and bought a Wii Fit (well my boyfriend bought it for me - thank you Randall!) because if I have it in the house there is no excuse for not exercising. It is actually a lot of fun and I feel great today!

It doesn't take very much time - most of the exercises are less than five minutes in duration - and the Wii keeps track of each individual's time and progress. I love it and when I feel better, I tend to look better and act better and am just more pleasant in general. =) I definitely recommend the Wii Fit to anyone who wants to get more active and have some fun at the same time!

I have never had so much fun hula-hooping before although the Wii Fit scares the dog since she's not used to me jumping around so much.

Thanks to a video game, I have no excuses not to exercise. It doesn't matter how cold it is outside or if the gym is closed, if I have nothing to wear or no time!

I know everyone's schedules are hectic, but looking good and feeling great is actually very good for business!

Family Artz Spring Fest At The Market Common

While I am going to be celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Columbia, here in Myrtle Beach there is a family festival going on at one of my favorite spots in the Myrtle Beach area. On March 14th, starting at 11 AM, there will be many different options for the whole family to enjoy.

The Market Common at Myrtle Beach will definitely be posted about in another entry, but click on the link for more information on the Family Artz Spring Fest:

Everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day!

While I actually am Irish (and have the freckles to prove it), I love celebrating St. Patrick's day with all of my friends. Although there is no doubt I love Myrtle Beach, I spent five years of my life going to college - undergrad and graduate - in Columbia, SC and it is one of my favorite cities. It's small enough to not be overwhelming but large enough to have anything you want at your fingertips at any time of day. Myrtle Beach has yet to have a 24-hour Sonic which I was sad to leave in Columbia. This year's St. Patty's in Five Points Mascot

Each year, Columbia holds a St. Patrick's Day festival in a section of town called Five Points and there is something for everyone during the all-day festival.

It costs $11 for advance tickets or $15 at the door. Five Points has a fountain they turn green and everyone on the streets - they block off the entire Five Points intersection for walking traffic - is decked out in green attire. It's non-stop fun from the 5K run/walk, a children's carnival, 5 different stages with music from country to blues to rock, street vendors, and of course green beer!

I have such a good time every year I have been and can't wait to bring some new Myrtle Beach friends to Columbia for the experience! This year the festival is being held on March 14th. I need to check the weather forecast.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy St. Patrick's Day! I know it's a a couple weeks away but I'm excited!

Collective Soul Concert

This was my first St. Patty's in Five Points experience years ago. We are standing next to the stage where Collective Soul was about to go on, if that gives you a better idea of the age of this picture. =)

I have a thing for Jeeps - love them - and green shoes too which are buried in this pic under my green sweatshirt...

I always run into people I haven't seen in forever! We just walked into Neely so had to stop and visit.

Free food? Yes, please

This morning Chick-fil-A announced on the radio it was sponsoring a stimulus package. Any food you buy on February 25, 2009 from Chick-fil-A, you will get for free in March. That's right, keep your receipt from today and you can bring it to Chick-fil-A any day in March and you will receive the same meal as you paid for today.

Free Chick-fil-A is always good! We had to wait 30 minutes to order but they were moving pretty swiftly. I'm looking forward to my free chicken nuggets in March. The only stipulations are you must keep your receipt and you must redeem it at the same location where you bought your food today.

So I know it's 9 PM but if you're in the mood for a late night snack,,,Chick-fil-A is giving you a chance for free food! We all love free food.

Has everyone heard of this? I wonder if it's regional or nationwide.
