The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts museum is celebrating its fifth birthday on Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 1-4 p.m. The party is free so come and have some fun!!!
There will be art, activities, music and family fun. The theme is "Art In Motion" with an emphasis on sports activities in collaboration with the museum's fall exhibition, "Visions of Victory: A Century of Sports Photography" and Alabama Tourism's 2008 Year of Alabama Sports. Events around the museum and grounds will connect the past 100 years of sports photography with art, science and movement. Children and young adults will have the chance to run races, explore drawing, look at cameras and to curate their own mini-exhibition. Events are designed for each age level and with relationships to elementary curriculum in a fun, meaningful way. In addition, participants may try their hand at print and papermaking with internationally recognized printing press artist Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. Live music will be provided by the Saugahatchee Ramblers. I'm all out of gas so what do I do now? If your area is like my area you are experiencing a shortage in gas for your car. So many of the gas stations I visited this weekend were completely out of gasoline. In order to conserve your gas and make it last longer please consider the following tips. Anyone wishing to share additional tips they have are welcomed.

1 Avoid High Speeds

2 Do Not Accelerate or Brake Hard

3 Keep Tires Properly Inflated

4 Use A/C Sparingly

5 Keep Windows Closed Windows open, especially at highway speeds, increase drag and result in decreased fuel economy of up to 10%.

6 Service Vehicle Regularly

7 Use Cruise Control

8 Avoid Heavy Loads

9 Avoid Long Idles If you anticipate being stopped for more than 1 minute, shut off the car. Restarting the car uses less fuel than letting it idle for this time.

10 Purchase a Fuel Efficient Vehicle

11. If you are able to walk to your destination do so. Not only will you receive the benefits of exercising, but you will not be using up the gas in your car.
