Choose a properlt sized wood stove that is certified to meet the EPA's emission standards. Make certain that the doors on any wood stove in the home fits tightly. Besure that your fireplace flue is open before using it. Always use a trained professional to inspect, clean, and tune-up your central heating system, furnace, flues, and chimneys annually. Have any leaks repaired promptly. Never let your car idle inside your garage.

If your employees or even yourself, travel into or even through Massachusetts, you or your employees could very well be stopped and be required to show proof of your worker's compensation coverage that specifically listing Massachusetts as a covered State.

Home Component Recalls a First Time Home Buyer needs to know-Decks-1, when you are looking at a home to buy, ask the sellers, if there are any home components of the home that has or have had a recall on them. Even if you are not using myself (Baker Home and Commercial Properties) to do your Home Inspection. Home Buyers should feel free to print these recalls out, and ask your Home Inspector to check and see if these items are part of the home's components. You see resalled home components are not really asked about with in the home owner disclosure sheets, (it one of those little loopholes) Composite Decks Recall by Louisiana-Pacific; Decks can deteriorate and break, posing a fall hazard.

Deck Recall

This was a voluntary recall of the following consumer producd, by the Manufacturer. Folks should stop using any recalled products immediately unless they are otherwise instructed.



This recall was first released in May of 2009



Product name: Composite Decks

Units: right in the area of 48 million linear feet was manufactured. The decks veryed in size.


Manufacturer: Louisiana-Pacific (LP) Corp. of Nashville, Tenn.


Home Component Recalls a First Time Home Buyer needs to know-Decks-1, Hazard: The recalled decking can prematurely deteriorate and unexpectedly break. Folks can end up falling through broken decking and suffer serious injuries.


Incidents/Injuries: LP had received 37 reports of the composite decks breaking, resulting in 14 injuries, including a broken wrist, sprained ankle, and minor lacerations and bruises.


Description: The recall includes outdoor deck boards and railing sold under the brand names LP WeatherBest, ABTCo., and Veranda. They are composite products that looks similar to natural wood and were sold in various colors which includes Tuscan Walnut/Chestnut, Driftwood Grey/Greystone, Pacific Cedar and Western Redwood. Veranda decking products were manufactured by multiple firms; but only the products that were manufactured by LP are included in the recall.

Decks Recalled

Home Component Recalls a First Time Home Buyer needs to know-Decks-1, Sold at: The Home Depot (Veranda brand) and building product dealers (LP WeatherBest and ABTCo. brands) Nationwide from January 2005 to August 2008 for between $1.50 and $2.25 per linear foot. All were Manufactured in the U.S.


Remedy: Folks with the recalled decking should immediately contact LP for a free inspection. If the decking is affected by premature deterioration, LP will arrange for the inspection.
