Hey Chicago,
Cook County Clerk, Dorothy Brown announced that their office is holding $18 Million Dollars of Foreclosure Surplus! That's right. According to the Circuit Court Press Release, if your house was closed upon and the sale or auction price exceeded the amount you owed on the mortgage, the Cook County Clerk's Office may be holding your surplus or equity, to which you are entitled.
If you don't know if you are one of those individuals, don't worry. I've attached a link and you can go online and put in your last name and your initial and the system will search. Remember, if you have a space between your name, you may want to try it different ways just to make sure. I have that problem with my drycleaning and it gets filed under "V", "S", "D" all the time.
So first,
Click here to put in your last name and first initial.
Now if your name appears and you have some money coming to you, don't go marching down to the Cook County Recorder's Office and demand it. There is policy. If your name appears on the list, then the system will open up and ask for more information. Once that is done and everything is qualified, then you will need to file a motion, and petition to recover the surpluse funds and then once that is done you will have to file an appearance with the presiding judge. Not to hard to do at all. There will be information for you to guide you on the petitions as well.
Congrats to those of you for reaching out and claiming your money. $18 Million Dollars is a lot of surplus.
