Buy Fresh Buy Local
The end of summer brings the harvest time in the Hudson Valley. Pure Catskills is a campaign to promote farms and food businesses in the Catskill region on New York.
Tara Collins, Communications Director Watershed Agricultural Council, reports, "This six-county regional branding effort is to raise people's awareness to local products here in and around the watershed region. Many of our members embrace the clean water mantra of stewarding the land. All embrace the pride of growing and raising local foods for local consumption. Ulster County residents can find a local farm or producer easily online at www.buypurecatskills.com.
We also have a Pure Catskills brand for regional wood products promoting raw lumber to finished furniture. You can find those members and their wares at www.catskillwoodnet.org. Both programs are economic iniatives of the Waterhsed Agricultural Council made possible with funding from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
Spending our dollars locally stimulates our regional economy. Can you imagine what impact we would have if we dedicated $10 a weeek to purchasing local products? By supporting wood businesses, veggie and livestock farms that work the land, we guarantee the rural character of the Ulster County landscape. Buying local is all about eating healthy food, connecting with your local farmer and promoting clean water."
The local farms are preparing for festivals, pick your own, and farmers markets. Some of the many farms in the area are:

The blueberries in New York State are ripe and ready to pick.
This weekend we took my oldest two granddaughters to our cabin in Otsego County in New York.
While there we picked some delicious blueberries.. and enjoyed the results. While picking we ate our share.
On Sunday we had fresh blueberry pancakes.
Visit New York and stop at one of the many pick your own farms- It is great fun and the benefits are well worth the work!
The beautiful scenery along the country roads in and around New Paltz is ready for your veiwing. The bold Shawangunk Ridge sits beyond the town. Ride along Sunflower lined Route 44/55.
Enjoy the back roads and views of the area farms. Road side fresh produce stands and local farmers markets abound selling the days harvest.
The panoramic view from the Shawangunk Ridge looks over the town. For a scenic day explore New Paltz this summer. The New Paltz area Mother Nature at her finest.
When in Ulster County stop by the Perrines Bridge:
Perrines Bridge which is still standing, was built in 1844 and restored in 1993. It is built across the Walkill River in Rifton, just outside New Paltz. It is the oldest surviving covered bridge of its design in New York State.
Built by Benjamin West the one lane bridge is a Burr Arch Bridge
154' long and 19.1' wide
The bridge is located on Route 213. There are picnic tables in the area for your convenience. The Wallkill River is easily accessed for fishing and your viewing pleasure.
