Vote for our fruit trees grant
Tucker Civic Association is partnering with Henderson Park Community Garden and DeKalb Parks and Recreation to apply for a grant for fruit trees and bushes in the newly expanded Henderson Park, and we need your support. At Henderson Park, where a community garden is planned, an arbor of 11 indigenous fruit trees and 30 blueberry bushes will be a wonderful buffer along Henderson Road. Some of each harvest will be donated to an area food bank. The grant application is part of a national competition sponsored by Edy's Fruit Bars and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. This project, called Communities Take Root, provides fresh fruit orchards for dozens of communities. Some 150 grant applications have come from across the country. Winners will be determined by votes over the internet. Please vote for our project by visiting the website: www. communitiestakeroot.com. Every individual is entitled to vote once a day. If you have four family members, you can enter four votes a day until the contest ends in August.

I do. In fact, it is my favorite sport. Back when I played, my coach told me I was a little small for the game, but that I made up for it by being slow. I understood the joke but didn't think it was very funny at the time. As much as I loved the game, the high school I attended never fielded a very good team. I don't think they have fielded a good team in the nearly 40 years since I attended there either.
Flash forward a few years. My kids don't know how good they had it in high school. We moved to Tucker, GA in 1988. I had kids at some grade level in Tucker High School for 22 years. During that time, I believe there was only one season that the Tucker Tigers did not make the playoffs, and they still had a respectable season.
Tucker is a nice bedroom community just 14 miles East of Atlanta. Close enough for an easy commute, yet a nice small town feel to it. When we first move there I was blown away by the amount of business and community support that came out in support of the football program. It was something I was totally unaccustomed to.
This year, look out! There is a terrific group of seniors coming back. One of them is rated as one of the top college recruits in the nation. The inside scoop I get is; they feel pretty good about winning State again this year. Time will tell and football can be mighty unpredictable at times, but the excitement is building within the community already.
Are you relocating to the Atlanta area? You should consider Tucker as your suburb of choice. Football is just one of the many great traditions in Tucker. The middle school is just 3 years old; the high school is in the process of being completely rebuilt, a brand new state of the art Library has just been completed, and Main Street, Tucker, is just about to get off the ground with its revitalization process.
